Technique Tip Tuesday - Switchy-Switchy Entry into S-Wrap As we learned last week, there are many different ways to get into S-Wrap. This entry involves switching your knee hook multiple times hence the name S-Wrap is used for side falling skills such as Windmill & Double Star. Keep reading for insider tips! 1) Begin from same side knee hook (fabric on right, hook right knee). • 2) Swim behind and wrap free leg from the inside out (catchers wrap). • 3) Hold the tail overhead with both hands. 4) Switch your knee hook from right to left. When switching knees be sure to pike forward prior to hooking, this will ensure you won't miss your knee hook. 5) Pass the tail from back to front around your free leg (right leg if you began from a right same side hook). Your leg must turn-out from your hip and aim toward your shoulder. Jill uses her right hand to gently toss the fabric over her leg and her left-hand catches it. If you have limited leg mobility, this part will be challenging. 6) Once the tail has been passed to the front, switch your knee hook from left to right. 7) If you're going into Windmills keep the tail to the front, if you're doing a Double Star drop, the tail goes behind your back. Common Mistakes: #1 - Using your feet to help switch your knees - Practice switching knees from right to left low to the mat as is shown in the video. Piking slightly prior to hooking your knee will ensure that you'll be able to get an adequate hook. Not piking enough may result in a fall. #2 - Sloppy tail pass - If you have tight hamstrings and/or inner thighs, the tail pass will be challenging. Practicing a dynamic warm-up along with the side leg kicks in the video may help. If you need to bend your knee do so with intention until your mobility improves! • ✨We'd love to see your progress!
