The final flight test of SpaceX Grasshopper vertical takeoff, vertical landing vehicle. During the 79-second test, the vehicle rose to an altitude of 744 meters before touching down safely. The footage has been sped up 250%.

Dream Chaser is a planned human-rated version designed to carry from two to seven people and cargo to orbital destinations such as the International Space Station. It is to have a built-in launch escape system and could fly autonomously if needed. The vehicle is to be able to return from space by gliding (typically experiencing less than 1.5 g on re-entry) and landing on any airport runway that handles commercial air traffic. Its reaction control system thrusters burn ethanol-based fuel, which is not an explosively volatile material, nor toxic like hydrazine, allowing the Dream Chaser to be handled immediately after landing, unlike the Space Shuttle. ~ Il Dream Chaser è una versione progettata per portare in orbita 2-7 persone e/o cargo, verso destinazioni come la Stazione Spaziale Internazionale. Essa include un launch escape system integrato ed è in grado di volare autonomamente, se necessario. Tale veicolo sarebbe in grado di rientrare dallo spazio tramite volo libero, o gliding (con accelerazioni tipiche di meno di 1.5 g durante la manovra) e di atterrare su qualunque pista di aeroporto normalmente adibita a traffico aereo commerciale. I motori a reazione del sistema di controllo bruciano carburante a base di etanolo, che non è un composto volatile a livelli esplosivi, né tossico come l'idrazina, permettendo così al Dream Chaser di essere gestito immediatamente a seguito dell'atterraggio, a differenza dello Space Shuttle.

On this day in 1985, the Cola wars between Coke and Pepsi got so heated that it was taken to the final frontier. Coke signed a deal with NASA a year prior to the STS-51F shuttle mission to develop a can capable of dispensing carbonated drinks in microgravity conditions. It took $250,000 to develop the containers, and once word reached the Pepsi company, not willing to be left behind in this feat, they decided to create their own version for $14 million and it was decided that both cans would be launched to perform an engineering evaluation of which company had a better design.
