I can’t imagine that you’ll skip this because this was such an incredible sunrise on a stunning location. If you want to watch the sunrise at Angkor Wat make sure you arrive around 04:30 at the temple and claim a good spot to watch the sun rise over the temple. We had a great spot left from the lake. Reflections with the magical Angkor Wat - largest temple in the world. ✨ ✧ Originally dedicated to the god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, Angkor Wat gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century. It is still a place of worship today for Buddhist monks. ✧ Visiting Angkor Wat for sunrise is a must, but sunset is also quite nice with the golden glow on the temple. Because the complex is so big and people scatter all around, you don’t feel the same dense crowds in the afternoon as you do for sunrise.

Aside from the elegance that is seen onstage, the dancers will humble themselves in the presence of their teachers. Before performances, dancers would pray to their teachers (sometimes with incense, sometimes without) to show their appreciation and gratitude to them for giving them their role and also for them to wish good luck upon them for a successful performance. This same ritual is done also with incense to pray to their predecessors that are now long gone. Food and drinks are set on golden platters backstage as incense is lighted for dancers to call upon the spirits of dance masters that they may give them prosperity in their performance. In Cambodia, every Thursday is considered “Teacher’s Day”. On this day the Royal Ballet bring out all leading headdresses and masks whether it be “Apsara Mera” or “Ream Eyso” as well as many others and set them on a high pedestal. There are a great assortments of foods and drinks to present to the spirits of the teachers as well the dancers from each role in the court repertoire perform the basic elements of dance in front of the masks and headdresses. Banteay Srei Temple • This will be the last photo of our Cambodian series. Save the best for last, right? • If you’re going to explore the Angkor area, make sure you include the Banteay Srei temple. This temple is also called the Lady temple because all around the temple you’ll find small and incredibly beautiful details of which men think only women could have created it. ‍♀ • After we saw the sunrise at Angkor Wat we left the site and drove to the Banteay Srei temple to beat the crowds. It’s a wonderful temple but quite popular and easy to reach for touring cars full of tourist.
