Ingredients: Blackened Shrimp: 500g raw peeled large shrimp (King Prawns), tails removed 2 cloves of garlic, minced 1 teaspoon ground basil 1 teaspoon dried thyme 1 teaspoon sea salt 1 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper 2 teaspoons sweet paprika (or smokey for a different flavour option) 2 bunches of Asparagus, halved 1 teaspoon olive oil Salad: 4 cups Cos lettuce leaves (or lettuce of choice), washed and ready to use 1 Avocado, cubed ¼ red onion, sliced 1 handful fresh basil leaves Dressing: ⅓ cup greek yogurt 1 teaspoon lemon pepper 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional for extra flavour) 2 tablespoons water (or olive oil) Salt to taste --- Directions: In a shallow bowl, combine shrimp (prawns) with all of the spice ingredients, and rub into the shrimp until evenly coated. Heat a large pan/skillet on medium heat and add the olive oil. Saute the shrimp/prawns and the Asparagus while turning occasionally until the shrimp/prawns and asparagus have started to change colour and are just cooked (about 5 minutes). Combine the lettuce leaves, avocado, onion slices and basil leaves in a salad bowl. Add the shrimp/prawns and avocado over the top. Drizzle with the dressing. For the dressing: Combine the yogurt in a bowl with the lemon pepper, lemon juice (if using), water and salt. Mix well to combine. . Iranian foods tend to follow a balancing act of "sard" vs "garm" foods, so that the meal balances each other out and you feel good and yummy after eating. Sard and garm technically mean "cold" or "warm," but really what they're categorizing here is the effect they have on your body. In excess, sard foods tend to nauseate, whereas garm foods make you break out. Ever wonder why lamb kabab is served with yogurt, but fish never is? Because lamb kabab (garm) + yogurt (sard) = ⚖️! But fish (sard) + yogurt (sard) = . What's funny is beef kabab is a relatively recent thing in Iran, so people just kept eating yogurt with beef kabab - which is sard on sard!! So you might need to balance it out with some other garm food to prevent you from getting sardi - a nauseated bleh feeling that every grandma prescribes a nice cup of chai nabat for. The ultimate panacea, chai nabat - black tea w rock candy - is the fastest jolt of garm to counter all the sard foods making you sick. And watermelon is the best when you're super garmi. My favorite balancing act is fesenjoon - so random, but so good: walnuts (garm) + pomegranate (sard) + chicken (garm) + rice (sard) = ⚖️ Do you follow any of this? Or at least, have some chai nabat on hand to stave away the sardi? ☕️☕️☕️ Quick note: this is definitely not limited to Iranian foods! Most Asian cuisines also follow some kind of balancing of warm and cold foods. Cajun Shrimp and Hot Links with Garlic Green Beans! A super easy 20 min weekend meal. This meal by legend @keto_rebel . I made the green beans first. Garlic Green Beans - Bring a large stockpot of water to a boil. Cook the string beans for 2 minutes, then drain and set aside. - Heat a large high-sided skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil, 2 tablespoons of the garlic and the string beans and stir. - Add the salt and pepper and mix again, then add the remaining 1 tablespoon garlic and stir to make sure the string beans are coated. Cook until tender, 5 minutes Cajun Shrimp and Hot Links - Season 1 lb shrimp with your favorite Cajun seasoning mix. Memorial Day weekend is tricky because it’s filled with beer and grill outs AND it’s right before summer so we’re all trying to get in shape. So what’s the best way to approach it . There’s always a happy medium to find, so I just wanted to share with you my approach to the weekend in hopes that it can help you find your happy medium! Whenever I go out of town for the weekend I ALWAYS bring healthy, high protein snacks with me because getting in protein every 2.5-3 hours is a priority for me. Always. I know most people don’t eat as often as I do, so it’s up to me to be prepared. For snacks I am bringing with me Level-1 protein, Level-1 bars, protein cookie dough bites, and Perfect Bars. I also am going to bring with me some healthy, premade meals. I know we are going to be grilling out and making food this weekend, but I want to have extra food with me in case I want something healthy for lunch or for a snack. It’s okay to give yourself options and to say no to food, but I am also going to enjoy my fair share of burgers and brats with all the fixins. #BALANCE Last but not least, alcohol. We are getting there late tonight, so I am planning on just having a few drinks really just so I don’t feel like crap on tomorrow. My goal for Saturday and Sunday is to drink enough to have fun, but not too much that I feel like crap the next morning. My thing is when I’m hungover I eat like garbage, so I just want to try to avoid that. Drink of choice will be White Claws because they are lower cal than most anything else! Other options would be tequila or vodka with water and a lemon/lime or Crystal Light! The thing with all of this is these are my goals for the weekend, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to stick to it 100%. My biggest advice is be prepared to make the best choices you can, but enjoy your time and some good food and drinks cause when it comes down to it you only live once. CHEERS!!!! Sure, maybe this toast is plain and simple and maybe this picture isn’t necessarily perfect. But, in reality, isn’t that how most of our meals are? ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Now that I’m done with school (GOODBYEE TESTS ) I’ll have more time to devote to this account and it has me thinking about the directions in which I want to take it. My goal has always been and will always be to be as real and open on here as possible. I want to show my realities and shed light on my situations in hopes of reaching others who can relate. It’s hard to be vulnerable, but that’s how you help people. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My simple breakfasts and dinners aren’t always what people would consider to be the most “instagram worthy,” but they’re real and they’re yummy af and I want to start sharing them on my feed, not just on my stories. Some days I want to bake crazy things and other days I just want to post a picture of toast or some chicken and veggies. So, get ready for it all (more lifestyle pics included) I think this caramelized banana toast is the perfect place to start ❤️ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I just caramelized bananas in coconut oil with a sprinkle of cinnamon, toasted some homemade gluten and grain free bread with @fourthandheart vanilla ghee (recipe in my bio), and spread it with love aka @georgiagrinders pecan butter. And bam. Breakfast is served. ⁣⁣
