Haapsalu Old Town, Estonia ⠀ Haapsalu (in Estonian, “aspen grove”) is an old resort town in western Estonia dating back to the 13th century, when the Episcopal Castle was built here at the place of an old settlement. ⠀ The castle is one of the main Haapsalu attractions, perfectly preserved to this day but known not only for its unique architecture. There is a legend that the ghost of the White Lady resides in the castle. She was the priest's beloved who was immured alive in the wall of the chapel. Her lover was also killed either in prison, or in a pit with tigers. Every August at the full moon, the White Lady appears in the castle and mourns her beloved. To celebrate the infinity of love, people hold a music festival in her honor at this time of the year. ⠀ Another important sight of the city is the old railway station. It consists of two parts: the emperor's station and the one for ordinary residents. Its platform is one of the longest in Europe, but today the trains do not operate here, and on the site of the station you will find the railway museum. ⠀ Tourists also come to Haapsalu for recreation purposes. The Art Nouveau architecture in Riga makes up roughly one-third of all the buildings in the centre of Riga, making the Latvia capital the city with the highest concentration of Art Nouveau architecture anywhere in the world. Built during a period of rapid economic growth, most of Riga's Art Nouveau buildings date from between 1904 and 1914. The style is most commonly represented in multi-storey apartment buildings. Stylistically, the Art Nouveau architecture of Riga can be divided into four different stages: Eclectic, Perpendicular, National Romantic and Neo-Classical. At the end of the 19th century, the old Hanseatic town and seaport of Riga was an important city in the Russian Empire which was enjoying a period of rapid economic, industrial and demographic development. Between 1897 and 1913, the city grew by 88%, reaching a population of 530,000 in 1914 and making it the fifth largest city in the Russian Empire and the third largest in the Baltic region. Its growth rate during this period was the highest the city had ever experienced. Riga (Latvian: Rīga, Livonian: Rīgõ) is the capital and largest city of Latvia. БОЛЬШОЕ КЕМЕРСКОЕ БОЛОТО, ЛАТВИЯ ⠀ Очень я хотела во время нашего путешествия по Прибалтике посетить болота. Какое именно и где, было не важно. Мы поставили точки и в Литве, и в Латвии, и в Эстонии, и в Беларуси. Решено было выбирать, куда ехать, исходя из погоды - хотелось, чтобы день был солнечным. ⠀ В результате мы посмотрели большое Кемерское болото в Латвии. ⠀ Через болото проложены деревянные мостки, по которым можно прогуляться (есть малый круг и большой: 3,7 и 1,5 км. ⠀ ДОБРАТЬСЯ: от железнодорожной станции Кемери, через железную дорогу до Вентспилсского шоссе 1 км, достигнув вышки мобильной связи, далее тропа, ведущая направо, у которой установлен указатель на мостки через болото. ⠀ Слово "болото" имеет славянское происхождение и родственно литовскому слову baltas (белый). ⠀ Болота возникают двумя основными путями: из-за заболачивания почвы или же из-за зарастания водоёмов. ⠀ Это и особенности рельефа (низины, куда стекают воды и образуется торф); ⠀ грунта и климата; ⠀ из-за человека (строительство дамб, плотин); ⠀ бобры! ⠀ А вот озёра зарастают и заболачиваются естественным путём - из-за времени. ⠀ Болота на самом деле невероятно интересны и полезны для людей, их ещё называют легкими планеты - они препятствуют развитию парникового эффекта. ⠀ В течение одного года гектар болота поглощает из воздуха в 7-15 раз больше чем гектар леса углекислого газа: 550—1800 кг и выделяет в 7-15 раз больше кислорода: 260—700 кг. ⠀ На болотах растут разные вкусные ягоды (брусника, голубика, клюква, морошка). ⠀ !А вы знали: что Няша — зыбкое болотистое илистое или глинистое место. ⠀ ✴️Васюганские болота — одни из самых больших болот в мире. Площадь болот 53 тыс. км (для сравнения: площадь Швейцарии — 41 тыс. км). ⠀ В тёплые тёмные ночи на болотах наблюдается свечение огоньков, а ещё за последние 300 лет в заброшенных торфяных болотах Британии, Ирландии, Нидерландов, Германии и Дании были обнаружены хорошо сохранившиеся тела людей.
