I love board games, so when I got hit up to shoot a video for @weredoomedgame, I was way too excited! Setup was pretty simple. Had a Astra on a menace arm with a soft box and skirt over the table. We hung up a bunch of 12x solids to make the background black. The location was actually an office building so we blacked out the windows with plastic. Lastly we put an @aputuretech mini-20d on the ground for a little backlight and separation. Camera was a Red Helium with Sigma zooms. Also had a Hollywood Blackmagic 1/8th in. @forbiddenplanet London It’s great to see their board game collection grow. They tend to have quite a few Kickstarter releases on the shelves - nice to see that in a bricks and mortar store. It’s also great to see the presence of boardgame’s growing in a geek merch shop, just shows the upward trajectory of the hobby. I mainly visit Forbidden Planet for the graphic novels and mangas but it is nice to check the games out as well. How can one resist?

Terraforming Mars is much improved by the Prelude expansion, getting your engines up and running faster so the fun begins right at the start. I’m a big fan of how the new Hellas/Elysium board alters play dramatically with different milestones and awards. ✨Concordia |❣️9.5/10 | 3 plays I finally played a 3p game of Concordia after two 2p games, and the added tension on the Italian side of the map made me love the game even more I ended up coming last by a point (104 v 105 v 107) after my friend ended the game and got a bonus 7 points from the Concordia card. My boyfriend ended up being the underdog that won with his poor-man hay and brick empire It’s awesome how we ended up with very similar scores despite pursuing very different strategies—it attests to the balance of the game I went for the expensive goods (wine and silk) first and bought the most cards, including lots of Minerva, Jupiter and Saturn cards. My friend built all his buildings and didn’t focus on buying cards as much, whereas my boyfriend focused on brick and hay and bought the brick Minerva card + loads of Mars and Saturn cards. Concordia is such an interesting balance between building, trading/buying goods and buying cards—the cards are score multipliers but you need to have built enough buildings and colonists to score decent points with them. I still struggle to find the best moments to buy cards or continue building, but I didn’t do too badly this time! I also love how streamlined and elegant it is; the game took <10 minutes to explain but has incredible depth. Euro games are becoming more fiddly and rules-heavy these days, so Concordia is always a refreshing change
