How long did you breastfeed your babes for? I breastfed Crew until she was 2 years and 1 month, and stopped because I was seven months pregnant with Knox. Knox is 16 months, and still full time nurses and barely eats Crew started eating around 9 months, and Knox just isn’t crazy interested in it! I still enjoy it though. Just not at night I think I may wean her to just days, or just nights, here pretty soon. Today is day 5 post PRP treatment. I left the house for the first time today, which was glorious. I used a crutch again to put as little strain on my hip as possible. We came straight home and I’m back resting in bed. Besides the pain, the hardest part of this is not being there for the kids. So it was really nice to be able to go somewhere with and for them. Sawyer (4) has shown very little empathy towards me. Occasionally he asks where my hip is or if I can’t do a task because it hurts. He’s mainly annoyed that I can’t walk fast or up the stairs. Lincoln (1), on the other hand is very concerned. The first night, I was visibly struggling to sit at the table, and fighting back tears. She noticed right away, shook her head no and had a very worried expression. I pulled it together and told her I was ok, but she kept a close eye on me. Lincoln is very interested in my crutch. Every time she sees it, she says “Walk! Hip!” She’s been cuddling with me, feeding me snacks and just being so sweet. I haven’t ventured up the steps yet so Lincoln’s nap and bedtime routine have been an adjustment for everyone. I nurse her in our bed, which she loves... ok really she loves jumping around and demanding to watch MadMen. Then Paul brings her upstairs to read books. Every single time she gets very upset and cries “Mummy!” over and over again. I cried too the first few days because it was heart breaking. Realistically, she is almost two, lately she doesn’t usually fall asleep nursing anyway. But I know it comforts and relaxes her before bedtime. I also know that I need to take care of myself and give my labrum the best chance to heal itself. She stops crying as soon as they start reading. On another note, how cute is she after bath time with her @zappydoobaby organic bamboo towel? It’s so soft and large enough for a toddler. *Long Post - but all my heart* ⁣ ⁣ This photo doesn't show the pain of engorgement, the cracked and bleeding nipples, the early postpartum uterine cramping, the frustration of getting the hang of pumping, the daily lactating through ALL of my clothes, getting out of the shower to find your breasts dripping all over the floor. ⁣ ⁣ Nor does it show the indescribable miracle of science and feeling of being able to nourish, through just your body, the life you created IN your body. It doesn't show the convenience of being able to feed anywhere, anytime, without worrying about labels or nutrition that's going in their little body. It doesn't describe the feeling of your baby pausing suckling because they are smiling at you. Or the beauty of watching your baby dream feed at your breast. ⁣ ⁣ In my first few days of motherhood, breastfeeding was so painful that I cried to my mom that I wasn't sure if I could do it. My mom promised me it would get better. I wasn't sure that she wasn't lying to me, but it did. Wonderfully so. And the feeling of being able to nourish that babe with my body after creating them, there's very little more powerful for body self-love. I didn't even mind pumping the oversupply, especially working from home, because it gave me a little freedom out for a date night ⁣ ⁣ I breastfed Luca for 17 months....the quiet moments in bed or reading in our living room, as well as the not so quiet ones, on countless flights, at conferences, while on zoom calls or in public. Most people don't know that a year supply of breastmilk, purchased, can go for $25,000+. It literally, is liquid gold. ⁣ ⁣ This time, knowing I'd likely have an oversupply again (apparently a commonality with mamas using the superfood smoothies I use) despite growing and nourishing BIG babes, I didn't want the extra to just go in the freezer. Especially, as last time a not quite closed door resulted in an entire freezer of milk turning bad. I asked my doula and she recommended a group called Human Milk 4 Human Babies - California, dedicated entirely to supplying women who can't breastfeed from milk from donors, at no cost. ⁣*cont’d in comments* @mollyandcophoto ⁣

Newborn Update Day 29: How the fuckity fuck has it almost been a month I came home from the hospital yesterday I think, blinked my eyes, and here we are. We’re doing the damn thing. We’re not doing anything particularly well, but we are doing it. Preschool ended this week for my two older kids, so I made a major endeavor this morning to bring them all to the local coffee shop for breakfast. We sat alfresco, and I tried to sip my coffee and scroll through my phone in between rocking the baby, answering an onslaught of stupid questions, and cajoling the kids to eat their fucking muffins and please stop trying feed/touch the diseased looking bird that kept visiting us. It was super relaxing as you might imagine. The thing is though, as chaotic as it was, I loved it. The baby is still not sleeping beyond a 3 hour clip at night (at best) and so I’m tired, but I feel so so so much better when we’re out living life a little. I think since this baby was born too, I’ve lightened up on myself in other ways. I let the kids wear their PJ’s to breakfast and have been trying not to worry about everything I have to get done in a day, and am just doing my best to do what I can do, and not sweating it too much if I don’t get to it all. It’s made this transition to 3 kids a lot more enjoyable than I’d anticipated. Since I fucking hate being pregnant I think I’m just so relieved to have the baby here and am soaking in this special time more than I even expected I was capable of doing. It’s ironic a little because while being a mom has tested my patience more than anything else I’ve ever done in life, it’s simultaneously been a lesson in teaching me some patience.
