I just found this photo and it made me all weepy (& not just because of the poor picture quality).... so much nourishment! . After giving birth, when you first start to breastfeed...the oxytocin that is released helps your uterus contract back to its normal size. Which is incredible and efficient (and my wardrobe appreciates it)! I'm constantly in awe of the female body. But it also means, especially in the beginning, that breastfeeding hurts like a BITCH. I barely remember the contraction pains while feeding with my first... they were notably brutal with my second. By the time my third came, every single feed was excruciating. It felt like I was in labor again! Each time he was hungry at first, I would cry. Knowing I needed to feed my baby but knowing it would be so immensely painful. Obviously we got through it. A few weeks of uterus shenanigans, a few weeks of trying to figure out our latch & flow & we were balancing salads bowls in no time! Breastfeeding can be such a frustrating, painful and difficult journey for SO MANY reasons. None of which reflect on your capabilities as a mom. Ever.
