Since there are a bunch of new people here, I thought I’d re-introduce myself. ♀️
.
I’m an eating disorder therapist and founder of @theeatingdisordercenter an outpatient therapy and coaching practice that works with people in Rockville, Maryland + worldwide via video (link in my bio to learn more )
.
I am incredibly passionate about eating disorder recovery, health at every size, & advocating against weight stigma and diet culture.
.
I write and speak about eating disorders on Fox, ABC, NBC, PBS, The Huffington Post, Psychology Today, conferences, therapy centers, and colleges.
.
I also have my own history of sexual trauma, an eating disorder, anxiety, and depression-which inspired me to help others who are struggling to find the same freedom that I did.
.
I can’t picture myself doing anything else than the work I am currently doing helping people to recover.
.
I’m an outgoing introvert (in that I enjoy being around people but need alone time to recharge), donut enthusiast, Ted talk junkie, wanna-be plant lady , and old soul.
.
Raise your hand if you can relate to any of my descriptors ♀️

Shout out to anyone having one of THOSE days. You know- those days where you wake up and the ONLY thing that seems comforting-reasonable even- is the eating disorder?
.
On those days, when you choose to eat the damn bagel anyway-THAT is true growth.
.
THAT is courage in it’s purest sense.
.
THAT is the feeling of you taking back your power, of re-wiring your neural pathways away from disordered misery and towards life in color
.
If you are uncomfortable-you are doing it right. If it feels frustrating, terrifying even-you are doing it right.
.
Remind yourself of this-first the discomfort, then the healing. It. gets. better. Keep goingFirst step-breakfast
Regaining the weight you may have lost due to Ed is amazing and wonderful. It’s also just the first step
.
.
In healing, there are many parts emotionally and physically. I know as someone who works with many clients and who has also experienced an eating disorder, that being weight restored doesn’t mean it’s all good .
.
It’s a starting point. And I know that it can sometimes feel even harder. Because the emotional stuff is so much
.
.
I don’t assume you’re okay. I know you probably aren’t
.
.
I rely an awful lot on calorie counting. I’ve forgotten what it’s like to actually eat a meal without knowing the exact calories it contains . I struggle eating food without being able to weigh it out first and a huge amount of my time is spent planning and preparing meals based on their calories. What comes so naturally to most people feels so foreign to me. With the help of my therapist I am trying to tackle this and gradually relearn to plan my meals based on their portion size, rather than focusing on the calories they contain. I saw this plate in town this morning and thought it would be useful to hopefully help me to relearn what normal portions look like again
