Today's #throwbackthursday goes way back to my tween years. I talked the other day about a phase I went through where I wore only black. Black is known to make us look/appear thinner and growing up, that's what I would keep hearing from my aunts, cousins and mom. So every time there was a party or gathering that was the color to wear. Let's not forget the hiding the belly part with pillows, purses, or behind someone else (I still find myself guilty of that occasionally). I grew out of that phase even before Keto thankfully. I love LOVE Pink and I couldn't imagine being embarrassed to wear my favorite color today. The idea of hiding yourself was always at the top of priorities for the women in my family when attending events. I never understood that but grew up on that idea. As a child, you do as you're told without questioning your parents/elders. So much so that it becomes a habit... second nature. Pretty soon I would adapt those beliefs and go through that phase.... later on as an adult I picked it up again as if it had never left me. I don't think it's something that will ever completely leave me but I didn't want to hide anymore. Even when I was bigger I'd wear it knowing very damn well my plump booty was gonna stand out #curvylatina ... . . . I caught myself doing the same to my daughters not too long ago and I thought "oh my God, did that just come out of my mouth?" I was saying the same things that would get said to me as a child. I really had and still have to work a lot on what I say but most importantly what I do because these kiddos are watching my every freakin' move! I don't want my daughters to grow up with the same complexities I did. It's something I'm also having to teach/work on with my husband as he never had that issue growing up. I just want them to be happy and healthy and for the decisions they make later in life to be decisions that will continue to give them exactly that even if someone doesn't agree or has something negative to say. Embarking on my 4th and FINAL year of medical school it’s been a long journey getting to this point, and I can’t believe how close I am to accomplishing a lifelong goal.
