After seeing how much Lawrence loved the rainbow and building block cubby house I made the other day I thought I could make another one. I absolutely love the magic wood tree houses, but they are out of my price range. So I've asked my handy hubby to make one for me (I'm mean the boys ) in the future. For now though, I've made a cardboard one. I was inspired by a few accounts... @early_childhood_fun101 @minimadthings @mightymurphy.m and @this.playful.life . I simply cut up sections of an old cardboard box and made different levels with paper towel rolls and wrapping paper tubes. I then hot glued them all together. For the ladders I found twigs and again hot glued them together. . . Well the boys LOVE it. They played with it all afternoon. I did have a to glue the slide back on a couple of times but it was such a hit! “We ❤️ the ” This is what our door has looked like for the past few weeks! We painted our kiddos hands in different shades of green and then had them write a word associated with saving our earth inside of their handprint. I love this piece we made! We made it using branches found outside and twine from the dollar store. You could make this at any point during the year, really. This is my new favorite play hack! I got the idea from @prettyplaypoppy who did an Easter egg version (who got the idea from @playtime.messy.madness!) and it couldn’t be easier- just hot glue designs on a toilet paper roll to make a patterned rolling pin for playdough! I made a mermaid scale pattern for this one, but I’m also thinking we can get some dragon play out of it too. To go with the imprint roll, I gave her three marbled playdough colors (i.e. I didn’t mix the color all the way ), some sea shells, evergreen twigs that I thought could pass as seaweed, and some metallic golden painted curly pasta from an old sensory bin that we used as magical undersea space worms. I was thinking about giving her sand to mix in, but decided my coffee was not strong enough for that impending mess. PLAYDOUGH & FLOWERS . After a wet few days we have an abundance of daisies and dandelions growing on the lawn so I gave Miss 3 a pair of scissors this morning and she loved practising her scissor skills on them! . We then brought the flowers inside and I got a few jars of play dough out and left her to it. . This was a simple, quick set up and I had no pre-conceived ideas about what she might do. . But Miss 3 had a lovely time pushing the flowers in & decorating the playdough. She then went and collected some of her kitchen pots and, as is often the case in our house, the play shifted to cooking role play! . Now combine a rainbow + sensory bag and you can picture me jumping with excitement‍♀️. Plus, it’s been a little while since this bag lady came out to play . I was tempted to leave the audio in this video because towards the end, these where Nickys statements: “I’m going to win for sure”, “I can do anything” and “I won this whole thing”! So apart from the fine motor skill practice and color sorting, this activity boost self esteem . • YOU’LL NEED: -Gallon size, freezer grade, plastic bag. Reusable bags are great for this. -Paper -Markers -Baby oil -Pom poms -Tape INSTRUCTIONS: 1️⃣Draw a rainbow on a piece of paper leaving some white space either above or below. I chose to do rainbow colors in a linear pattern but the traditional arch will work as well. 2️⃣Cut the paper to the size of the bag. TODDLER’S FIRST DOT STICKER ACTIVITY Well, if I would have known I was going to post this toddler activity for you guys, I would have spent a little more than 5 seconds drawing these circles But - it was such a huge success w my 20 mo that is wouldn’t be fair of me not to share. ••••••••••• Do you see dot sticker activities all over Insta these days? (Thanks ladies @busytoddler @dayswithgrey ) Maybe you’ve wanted to try them out, but have a younger toddler at home. Draw large circles in each color of dot stickers. Adding machine! I made this for Arlo this afternoon because he was really enjoying doing some hands on addition with some wooden mushrooms. I had seen similar adding machines on here recently so I mentioned to him that I could make him an adding machine and he was so excited!! I hot glued two cardboard rolls to a box and wrote a + with marker on the top of the box between them. On the bottom of the box I wrote an = sign. I gave Arlo pegs with numbers hot glued on to them so he can pop a peg on each roll then put the correct amount of Pom poms (or anything else he wants to use that will fit) down the rolls.
