“The all-woman leadership team, including cofounders Audrey Gelman and Lauren Kassan and CFO Diedra Nelson, oversees an empire that is expanding faster than WeWork or SoulCycle at this stage in its history.” Thank you @fortunemag for including me, @audreygelman & @lololevine on your #40under40 list.
Congrats to my husband, founder and CEO of @offlineraleighdurham, for being awarded one of the Triangle’s top 40 under 40 business and community leaders! What an accomplishment, and for anyone who knows David you know he earned it. This man works harder than anyone I know and is still somehow a superdad and husband, too. David also won two other awards last night (the golden hammer and golden hard hat) for the most donors and the most money raised for @habitatwake! The @offlineraleighdurham community really came together and made this happen. Amazing, just amazing. I love this city, I love these people, and I love this guy. ❤️
Yesterday, I was back in my hometown of Houston for the annual HBJ 40 Under 40 Awards.
I was pumped to win and super grateful to make the cut. I was the youngest recipient this year amongst so many incredible entrepreneurs doing incredible things.
Winning was hugely humbling for me because it forced me to reflect on how far I’ve come.
Rewind a few years and I was a frustrated engineer working a cubicle job.
I’d worked so hard at school to create this life, but it turned out it wasn’t what I wanted. Instead, I wanted more freedom and more control over my life - so I started JavaPresse. ☕
Back then I knew nothing about business.
And while I was surrounded by people with super successful corporate careers, I didn’t know any successful entrepreneurs.
Looking back, being clueless and isolated was my biggest advantage - because I was forced to figure it out. I had no route to follow and no examples to be led by, so I created my own path.
Turns out you can learn pretty much everything you need to get started in business - online.
That’s the easy bit!
The harder part is finding the courage to change your life.
Back then, I was so freaking scared because I didn’t want to screw it up. Everything in the future was unknown and uncertain and I felt totally unqualified.
But the second I took my first baby steps, I built confidence in myself. And with more confidence came the courage to take bigger leaps.
Soon, momentum took over and I have never looked back.
And that’s when it became clear. ✨
You can create anything you want once you cultivate the courage to get started and keep going.
Sure it takes ownership and initiative.
You’re going to run headfirst into your fears.
But if you act with courage, you can actualize anything you want - this 40 Under 40 award is proof of that!
So if there’s something you want in your life, commit to that first step. Do something to get yourself moving - and do something towards it every day.
Two or three years down the line, you’ll be pinching yourself when you see just how far you’ve been able to come.
Simply from acting with courage.
You can do this

We made Fortune Magazines 40 under 40 for our work in fighting for equity, speaking out and helping pave the way for future athletes that wish to also be Mothers! To say I’m honored would be an understatement! I’d be remiss to not also honor @karagoucher who just celebrated her 41st birthday otherwise she would be right there with us for this award! And of course of course of course the incredible @lindsaycrouse whose writing transformed the palpability of our hard to tell stories as well as Max Cantors incredible directing and attention to detail that helped send our intended direct message of “we need immediate action to ensure that women athletes in our differences have the access and support we need in sports that tell us this is a space that is protected for us in which we can truly #DreamCrazy. Thankful beyond measure and excited for the future, can’t wait to share more developments! #DreamMaternity #fortunemagazine #40under40 @fortunemag @nytopinion @af85 @phe800 @karagoucher
