Her previous stylist had moved and she was referred to me, I saw her 4-5 times and we were just not hitting the mark. . We both adored each other, we felt like we were communicating well, but every time she came back she was frustrated with her hair. Even though I was trying everything I could to replicate her previous stylists work, it just wasn’t doing what she was used to.⠀ .⠀ At her latest appointment I was fully prepared to tell her that I didn’t think we were the right match. As much as I adored her, I honestly felt awful charging her for hair I knew she was going to struggle with. ⠀ .⠀ Then she sat down at that appointment and said it.... . “Emily, I think we just need to start over. You aren’t my old stylist, and I need to let you do your thing. The way you do hair is like your handwriting and I am trying to make you write in someone else’s handwriting.”⠀ .⠀ You guys, this BLEW MY MIND. Not only was I totally relieved, but I had never even thought of that analogy. It makes total sense! Everyone has their style, their strengths, their toolset.
