FRANCE - Omaha Beach – 75th Anniversary of D Day – Sculpture “Les Braves” by ANILORE BANON – French Sculptor - @anilorebanon
Les Braves is a war memorial that is located on the shores of Omaha Beach in the village of St. Laurent-sur-Mer in Normandy, France and commemorates the fallen American soldiers, of World War ll who have lost their lives on the beaches of Normandy, June 6th 1944.
-
The memorial represents three elements:
The Wings of Hope, Rise Freedom, and the Wings of Fraternity. French sculptor ANILORE BANON, created the monument in 2004, commissioned by the French government to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. In the center, there are seven stainless steel columns and a group of five columns that curve upwards, two columns stand upright, with the tallest reaching 30 feet. Stainless steel wings gracefully stand on both sides.
Intended only as a temporary art piece, the sculpture still stands on the shores of Omaha Beach widely due to public interest and petition. The sculpture has been described as a blend of art and nature and has been able to withstand the forces of nature surprisingly well. -
-
Comment of the sculptor: I created this sculpture to honor the courage of these me. Sons, husbands and fathers, who endangered and often sacrificed their lives in the hope of freeing the French people.
Les Braves consists of three elements:
The wings of Hope – Spirit which carried these men on June 6th, 1944 continues to inspire us, reminding us that together it is always possible to changing the future. -
Rise, Freedom! - Example of those who rose against barbarity, helps us remain standing strong against all forms of inhumanity. -
The Wings of Fraternity - Surge of brotherhood always reminds us of our responsibility towards others as well as ourselves.
On June 6th, 1944 these men were more than soldiers, they were our brothers. - -

I can’t figure out why, but there’s something about climbing on tanks in high heels that makes me incandescently happy! Also, this particular tank was used in the movie Fury, so that’s kinda neat too. •

What a beautiful collection full outfit of the Big Red One !
If you could get a collection like this, which division would you choose ?
For me it would be the 29th Infantry Division (''Blue and Gray'') or the 1st Infantry Division ('' Big Red One ''). These two divisions because they are the ones who landed on Omaha Beach on 6th June 1944 and because I am very interested in this battle. Furthermore, the Rangers are already very often represented during reenactement. I also plan to start a collection like this ... case to follow...

Except for a few selfie-taking soldiers and the fact that it’s in color, you might never know this was 2019 and not 1944. We accidentally happened upon this massive group of soldier re-enactors in Carentan while the town was dead this morning. I could seriously imagine what it must have felt like to see these exhausted but victorious men marching in! Emotions are high for me this week. Around every corner is a moving site like this one. #75emeanniversairedudebarquement
