Baseball Training Made Simple
-
Want to throw 90?
Hit the #90mphformula
•Minimum Bodyweight: 2.5x your height in inches
•Reverse Lunge: equal to your bodyweight as external load 10 reps/ side OR hit a 1RM of 1.5x your bodyweight.
•Chin-up: a total of 250 lbs for 1 rep (include bodyweight and external load)
•Deadlift: 400lbs off the ground (conventional, sumo, trap bar all work here)
•Long toss: 300 feet
-
Want to run a 6.5?
Hit the #90mphformula and a 1.75x bodyweight reverse lunge. After you can accomplish those metrics, add hill sprints to transfer that power into sprinting mechanics.
-
This has worked with all of our position players except for one currently running a 6.8 with self proclaimed “garbage mechanics”. Also worth noting he’s a 2-way guy, not strictly a position player.
-
Want to increase your odds of NOT having a UCL surgery by 480%?
•Reverse lunge: 1RM of 1.5x bodyweight
•Chin-up: 13+ bodyweight reps
•Deadlift: 2x bodyweight

STORY TIME
⠀
I distinctly remember the day I met @stremm.life. He was an 8th grade baseball player that had been struggling with pretty significant back pain. This quiet kid was not happy. He had been fighting through back pain for some time and it finally was impeding his ability to play baseball, thus why his physical therapist referred him to me.
⠀
After only a few sessions, I realized that this kid was not only a hard worker, but strong for his age. As his back pain disappeared and he actually believed me he would get back to playing baseball, I finally saw a smile. A few more sessions later and I finally got a laugh.
⠀
Henry and I trained together for 2 years very consistently until I moved on to start @advancedtherapyperformance.
⠀
Fast forward two weeks prior to the start of his senior hs season I received an email stating that Henry was having sever back pain and was begging to get back in.
⠀
“I remember I could not get my pants on or go to class or sleep. I came in and got treatment and went 3-3 in the season opener”. Henry proceeded to help lead his team to a conference championship.
⠀
Fast forward to today and Henry has become one of the faces for ATP. Henry leads by a tireless work ethic and is exactly what we want from our athletes.
⠀
As for that crippling back pain, Henry states “non-existent and when it’s not perfect nothing a set of get-ups can’t fix”.
⠀
Henry’s #90mphformula Metrics
6’ 185lbs
Deadlift: 600x8
Reverse lunge: 455x3
Chin Up: 250x4
Long toss: 330feet
Bear crawl: “flawless” (his words)
⠀
Baseball metrics
60 yard dash: 6.39s
Tee exit velo with wood: 103mph
⠀
Henry is currently marching towards the metrics of the elusive #100mphformula. The only metric he has left is the long toss!

Another awesome visual from @velopitching of how your upper and lower half work to create seperation and potential energy!

Visual representation of how separation is created between the hips and shoulders:
.
1️⃣ The back knee and hip rotate internally.
.
2️⃣ The front knee and hip rotate externally.
.
3️⃣ Movements 1 and 2 create rotation of the trunk towards the plate.
.
4️⃣ The shoulders stay closed with slight counter rotation, creating a massive amount of potential energy when they open to deliver the pitch.
