ELIJAH A collaboration with the masterful @vizsla_bacon @molotowheadquarters He sits outside of Jimmy’s Coffee in Kensington market. After stopping for a cup one morning I saw him out front asking for change. For some reason he interest me. I approached him and asked if I could take his portrait in exchange for a 2 dollar coin and he agreed. As I walked away he shouted “My name is Elijah.” I turned around and asked him if he had any words to share. He said “Everything is going according to schedule. My time here is almost done, carry the fight. When I leave that’s when the real magic will happen. Everything is the way it should be.” Powerful shit. His words kinda fucked with me. I once heard that homeless people only hear their names a few times a year. I feel guilty about not asking for it and just walking off. He shouted it just loud enough for me to hear it but it’s as if the words went right through me. It’s crazy, when I was painting this piece with Bacon he would tell the locals who the portrait was of and they would flip in excitement. He’s well known and liked. I hope it stays that way. I don’t think I’ll forget this man’s name, his face or his words. “Carry the Fight!” Powerful shit.
