One of my Agave ‘Blue Glows’ has been threatening to bloom since 4-11-19. The small crown leaves continue to amass. Any day now and I’ll have my first agave bloom.

A well xeriscaped garden with Agave ovatifolia, Spineless Prickly Pear cactus, Pride of Barbados and more (previously shown in Spring 2017) now with two years growth in early summer glory.

I had such a blast painting this agave mural for Sara and Rich at the @jthposada! Between painting in such a peace inducing space and all of the breaks to sit and chat about plants it didn’t even feel like work! Thank you Sara and Rich for trusting my vision and being so encouraging when I started to panic about small details!

Can you believe ground sloths once roamed the deserts of Joshua Tree National State Park 11,000 years ago? I couldn’t believe it. These bear-sized sloths lived in unison with Joshua tree and were major seed distributors. Fossil records of dung reveal undigested Joshua tree seeds and even though some animals can still transport Joshua tree seeds none can do so at the sheer volume or distance as the giant sloths once did. The giant sloth is an unlikely partner for Joshua Tree but evolution sees past appearances. Our beloved Joshua Trees face emanate threats from climate change and scientist predict that we will no longer have Joshua Trees in 2100 (Barrows et al., 2012).

A escultural Iuca-azul (Yucca rostrata) finalmente já pode ser observada em diversos jardins pelo Brasil. Nativa do Texas, nos Estados Unidos, e das regiões de Chihuahua e Coahuila no México. No Brasil a maior referência que conheço na produção é a Flora Decari @floradecari by @ricardoarmandopaisagista . Os exemplares aqui no EntreVerdes Campinas vieram da Tropical Plantas @tropicalplantasoficial , @ferreiramateusagro . Pode chegar aos 5m de altura com uma coroa no topo de folhas finas de cor azulada-cinza. Folhagem disposta naturalmente numa forma esférica, sobre o ápice do tronco. Quando as folhas morrem, se dobram para baixo, formando uma saia ao redor do tronco. Alguns exemplares podem ramificar, mas isso é muito raro de ocorrer, registrei uma planta ramificada no Jardim Botânico de Barcelona. É uma planta muito rústica, adaptando-se a diversos climas, do Sul ao norte do Brasil, incluindo até o litoral. Até em grandes vasos ela se desenvolve, conferindo ao conjunto um belíssimo efeito.
