I have officially graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Agriculture. I admit my 3 1/2 years of schooling has gone by fast but I learned so much and met so many great people. “Do more of what makes you happy.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ___ ⬆️ one of the many things I wrote down on January 1 was to do more of what makes me happy, more of those feel good days where you leave your phone and forget about it. That was today...or at least for a couple hours. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ___ When we bought our house last fall we received a gift certificate to our local green house, “The Plant Farm.” Today I spent all of it and then some. I love working with soil and planting things, it’s one of the many things I love that I was taught growing up and one of the things I can’t wait to teach my babies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ___ This summer sometime we will have more time to actually get in the flower beds, but for now I got some planters looking awfully good ‍

Look what you can do with a VSU Agriculture Degree! Keonté Edmonds, '11 (Animal Science) is an agriculture teacher and FFA/Humane Society Club advisor at Granville County Schools in N.C., where he recently hosted South Granville’s first annual Animal Science Camp. Twenty-nine elementary and middle school students gathered for three days to learn about a variety of small and large animals. Former and recent students of South Granville welcomed campers and aided in activities, including frog dissection. Field trips to Homestead Harvest (Wake Forest, N.C.) and to Muletown Veterinary Hospital (Creedmoor, N.C.) gave students an opportunity to learn about different careers in the animal industry. Other activities Edmonds organized included learning about animal care from the school’s on campus goats, chickens, rabbits, dog and cat. Edmonds has also been named the Rookie Teacher of the Year for two consecutive years and serves as a representative of the board for Virginia State University Alumni Association.️️ #VSUAgLife #VSUAlumni

LOCAL LIFE: Congratulations to Hills District local Lauren Adler on being named one of the 2017 Horizon Scholarship recipients, an initiative of the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation. Lauren, a 2016 Oakhill College graduate, will receive $5,000 per year to assist with costs associated with studying and ag-related university degree, plus access to industry workshops and placements to kickstart her career in agriculture.
