Happy 4th of July! This year I am spending it with my family. We all have something we are dealing with. My dad was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 10 years ago. And it’s something me and my family are coping with. This year I told myself I would be more open and vulnerable. As much as I love providing inspirational and aspirational content I also want to be real. And the reality is that life can be tough. But you get through it with love, laughter, and support ❤️. Happy to be in a country that supports my fathers care.
Remember Me?

@bbdo_germany’s series of unrecognizable family portraits convey how, through the eyes of an Alzheimer’s patient, cherished relationships become an unsolvable puzzle made up of shuffled memories that fade away piece by piece.

Today my wonderful Nanny Kit met her two newest Great Grandchildren...Delilah and Wilf! Shes just turned 90 years old and suffers terribly from both Alzheimer’s and Dementia which means she no longer really knows who we are, but she really is the most cheery, loving and kind person still....and she LOVES a baby! Her face completely lit up when she saw them, and when I asked if she wanted to hold them she was literally beaming! She was talking to them both for ages and remembered Delilah’s name for a few minutes which was lovely! And she got lots of smiles from them both, just like she’s made me smile all my life. So pleased we have this photo of her looking so happy with them both. We have the same photo in the exact same chair with Bonnie too, so such lovely memories for us to keep and to show them when they’re older❤️

How are Neurofibrillary TANGLE formed?
Check out our IGTV @nanobioart for the full version (Alzheimer's Disease) .
How are neurofibrillary tangles formed? When a neuron communicates with another, a signal goes from the body known as #soma to the #synapse to transfer the information. The signal passes through the skeleton of the #neuron composed of #microtubules; these microtubules are stabilized by normal #tauprotein. An #Alzheimer's disease tau protein becomes defective and detached from the microtubules. Thus the skeleton of the neuron dissociates as it is no longer maintained. Defective tau proteins then assemble to form filaments in the neuron. Without the skeleton the neurons degenerate, and connections between the neurons are lost. The abnormal accumulation of tau filaments in the neuron creates #neurofibrillarytangles and eventually causes the death of the neuron.

Today, we celebrate the Summer Solstice. It’s imperative to keep our brains healthy, not just today, but everyday! For those in the Alzheimer’s community, let’s work on making the start of summer the healthiest yet!
We need your help to shed light on why Alzheimer’s disproportionately affects women. The research we fund everyday would be impossible without continued donations, which is why we are raising money on Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month to keep this important work going!
You have until midnight tonight for donations to be matched up to $20,000! So head up to our link in bio, and donate. And make sure you are practicing brain health, no matter what day it is! #summersolstice
This morning, fashion icon, author, and artist Gloria Vanderbilt passed away at 95. Although Vanderbilt famously did not have an easy life, dealing with much personal loss, she lived life to the fullest. She is the perfect example of never giving up, of always keeping your brain active, and truly getting (and giving) the most out of life! How are you living life to the fullest this week? #motivationmonday
