You know, some people say there isn't enough fighting in Scythe. That is by no means a problem with our group at a 7 player count. A great number of fights broke out as a result of low real estate. Had to put in a bit of effort to claim a small amount of territory!
Do you often throw down hard in Scythe or avoid your opponents at all cost?
Tonight game was Raiders of the north sea with the game expansion. It's was about 6 months since last time I played it and first time with the fame expansion. I really like the fame expansion, it's change the feel of the game and make it more attractive to take valkyries in the early start and having a strong crew was more important. Have you played the game expansion? Thoughts? #raidersofthenorthsea @garphillgames #raidersofthenorthseafieldsoffame
My dream as a boardgamer is to play a game over and over until I know it with depth. I'm not the kind of person who learns a game easily so it's so nice to get games like Troyes to the table again so quickly. So tonight playing with the expansion was a treat because there were additional action cards that presented more options. There were also the outdoor cards that acted as delayed actions but honestly I was too focused on main action cards that I didn't fully maximise their use. With so few rounds, I was forced to look at using action spaces that gave me the most VP. You think that more options the game is more open ended but I found the opposite to be true. With so many options, I was telling myself to focus on ones that actually gave me victory points. It was easy to be sidetracked by "shiny" new spots that opened up, that weren't actually optimal choices. People said that with the purple wild dice the game felt less tight but I disagree. Sure, you get an additional action or some of your actions powered up but it was the same for your opponent. The expansion was a nice change but it wasn't so drastic that it changed the feel or flow of the original game. I also would have fully enjoyed the game without the expansion but the new action cards and outdoor activities do add to replayability. One hopes that I get to the stage where I've played it so much that I would need those new cards. A girl can dream @pearl_games_ @asmodee_games
