Practicing yoga began to change...everything. Instead of DOING yoga, my yoga practice was slowly slowly slowly revealing my Self. I was always WHOLE, but just fragmented. I was strong in my body, but totally uninformed mentally and intellectually. I was taking yoga classes like a straight up consumer, 10-12x per week. I thought yoga was my therapy, it was my quick fix I was showing up and sweating profuesly in my new overpriced antimicrobial 4 way stretch yoga pants and matching bra, executing each asana with relative ease. Each afternoon, I would leave Santa Monica puffing on a cigarette on the way back to the southbay. Yeah, i said it - i smoked cigaretttes (the skinny menthol kind) which is actually more embarassing to admit than thoughts of suicide. For 3 years, I was showing up and doing the work, but really what work was i doing and why? What is this culture of no bad vibes and do what feels good in your body yoga classes?
Sometimes yoga is confrontational and uncomfortable, but there is something to learn in those times of inconvenience. Yoga is not to be consumed, it is meant for practitioners. Alignment is the key... to get in and organize your koshas and excavate your BLISS.
