#gifted | It’s review time! I don’t often review products on here as I don’t want to be spammy or annoying, but I really think this book is effective and I can tell a lot of hard work and dedication has gone into it. So here goes!
.
.
I was lucky enough to be sent a copy of @howtodrawanatomy and have been using it over the past couple of weeks. I often get messages from students wanting to use drawing to aid their learning and revision, but worry that they lack the artistic ability. This book really simplifies and speeds up anatomical drawing, allowing any visual learner, regardless of artistic talent, to use drawing as a means of learning and understanding anatomy. It features extremely simple step-by-step instructions on how to rapidly sketch anatomy of the whole body- swipe for an example of how quick the sketches really are! You won’t end up with beautiful illustrations using this book, but what I always say is that drawing for learning doesn’t have to be pretty- just effective! And this book allows you to do just that! what I will say is that it is not a replacement for an atlas, but should be used alongside one to gain a robust conceptual understanding of anatomical topics. It doesn’t cover anything in detail, but what it does do is teaches you the tools to approach anatomical drawing in a simplified way, so you can go ahead and start drawing for learning without the aid of the book

Apart from students, I feel this book would also be useful for both anatomy teachers and doctors in their day to day practice. For me, my sketches often take far too long to even think about doing them on a whiteboard during a lesson, but by using this book I’ve been able to strip back my drawing so I’m able to quickly produce simple diagrams that are usable in a teaching context. Similarly, a doctor could use this to generate simple sketches to help patients understand a condition. The book is organised by system, so may be less user-friendly for someone being taught anatomy regionally (but it’s still totally applicable!). All in all, I’m very impressed- well done @phillearnest for creating such a unique and useful resource!
The kidneys' job is to filter your blood. They remove wastes, control the body's fluid balance, and keep the right levels of electrolytes. All of the blood in your body passes through them several times a day.
Each kidney has around a million tiny filters called nephrons. You could have only 10% of your kidneys working, and you may not notice any symptoms or problems.
If blood stops flowing into a kidney, part or all of it could die. That can lead to kidney failure.

It’s an osteology kinda day Key things to note about the proximal femur is that there is an intertrochanteric crest (posterior) and an intertrochanteric line (anterior), that are continuous with eachother between the lesser and greater trochanters and are important landmarks for muscle attachment. Also note the neck and head which are longer and larger respectively than those of the humerus, allowing for a much more stable joint than the shoulder, albeit with more limited range of movement ♂️

A lovely pastel blue penis fun fact: in anatomical position, the penis is erect - important because this changes what we consider dorsal/ventral when describing the penis and it’s anatomic relations! (please don’t ban me Instagram)

Teaching reproductive anatomy can be challenging! It’s obviously a topic that some students may find awkward, and students will have a wide range of prior knowledge about the topic. When I taught it a few months ago, I took the approach of ‘assuming no knowledge’. By going right back to basics, and keeping all conversations on a purely anatomical basis as much as possible, the teaching session was effective and any embarrassment for the students was avoided! How do you approach teaching potentially awkward subjects?

Finally finished with the kidney for the second organ coloring page pack! I've been so busy with so many other things this took me way longer than I expected. Now off to drawing a detailed and stylized stomach!⠀
