The 2,000 year old body of Xin Zhui (213 BC - 163 BC) which is considered the best preserved mummy ever discovered. Her skin is soft and her arms and legs can still bend. Her internal organs are intact and she still has her hair, eyelashes, and Type-A blood in her veins.
Also known as Lady Dai, she was the wife of a nobleman during the Western Han Dynasty of ancient China. Her tomb was discovered in 1971 in Changsha, Hunan, China when workers were digging in an air raid shelter.
She was discovered to have 138 melon seeds in her stomach, intestines and esophagus which implied that she died in summer during the melon season. The presence of food in her stomach also indicated she died within two or three hours after she had eaten. She died of a heart attack at age 50.
According to an autopsy, Xin Zhui was overweight and suffered from clogged arteries, liver disease, gallstones, diabetes, high blood pressure, back pain and a severely damaged heart. Due to her sedentary lifestyle, she has been nicknamed "The Diva Mummy".
She was laid to rest in 20 layers of silk, immersed in a mildly acidic liquid which also contained some magnesium and then sealed within four coffins. To this day scientists are unsure what exact kind of liquid was used in her burial and it remains a mystery just how the body was preserved so well. Despite the Egyptians being the most famous for their mummies, the Chinese were arguably the most successful at preserving them.

Recently, I’ve been plotting up a fantasy world inspired by ancient Chinese culture and mythology; the inhabitants are winged beings called “Tiānshî”. The Tiānshî empire follows a strict caste system, and status can be seen in the color and symbolism of one’s wings; for instance, the Empress has the regal wings of a stork that symbolize fertility, while the Emperor’s mistress has sparrow wings that signify love and beauty. I wanted to draw these two women as I envisioned them in my head, as well as one of the main characters, a disabled thief named Xia. There will definitely be more drawings and ideas to come in the future, because I’m in love with drawing ornate hairstyles and outfits {even when the detail kills me~} *//^//*❤️❤️

In the Tang period, pottery models of horses were produced in substantial quantities; but the size and amount allowed in burials were regulated by strict sumptuary laws. The usually large size (78 cm high) of this horse indicates it would have been made for an important nobleman or princeling.
Gorgeous isn't she?
Behold, it's Notoriah's wife in the 14th century (pre-marriage). She plays the pipa because we all know music runs in the family. Also, thanks so much for your awesome name suggestions! I have a lot to consider.
(P.S. I might make more comics of Notoriah and his wife, so what do you think they often argued about?)

I love these old shops. Standing here for a damn near a thousand years just watching the world move forward but still serving their purpose as well as any modern convenience would.
This is another shot from my first camera back in 2017. I didn’t want to rely on autofocus and wanted to hone my abilities with manual. Chalk that up to not wanting to use a crutch and dive right in to full manual.
I wish i knew better. I use autofocus constantly now and achieve the exact results I am looking for. HOWEVER! I still love the images I took home with me from China back in 2017.
Texture is the word… I keep getting asked what it is I love about Asia, If i summed it up in one word it would be texture.
It’s the reason I would stop dead in my tracks every 10 seconds to take another picture, its why I come home to YVR and find it hard to be inspired to go out and shoot.
Texture makes everything interesting, It gives everything a story where you fill in the blanks within your mind and create the events that these walls must have seen over the years.
The walls and surfaces talk to you in a telepathic manner, projecting you hundreds of years in the past where you can create your own adventure. You may be way off, perhaps the mundanity of everyday life is all that these buildings were exposed to but that even is a fairly beautiful image in its own right.
I hope these shops stand firm for another millennia. Its a testament to ancient building techniques.
