I have to get better at these modelling photos. Practice, practice, practice. I'm wearing the lapis lazuli and cat ear weights, for those who asked ❤ Let's see if I can make an Etsy store before the week is out, in between chopping wood, homework, raising the youngbloods, gardening, sewing my travelling shoes and managing Gemini's overactive fingertips weaving away in my imaginations. Blessings in your dark moon!

my eight year old made his first drum today!
he chose a heart shaped stone and a bear shaped stone, a stone from the ya ha tinda, a tiger’s eye stone and a sodalite stone to keep the deer hide company during its soak.
he offered his own prayers of gratitude to the deer for giving its hide so his drum could have a voice and to the white ash tree for giving its wood so that his drum could have a frame.
i offered guidance on how to be mindful and helped him to keep even tension and weave his handle, but other than that, this drum is his baby; his own beautiful creation.

If you're new to this page and my work or any Indigenous work for that matter and are taken back by the use the animal parts without wanting to understand then this space is not for you. If you're here to make abusive comments and further harass or demonize Indigenous ways of life then you will be blocked like the others. When blocking a person, their comments automatically get deleted (incase you're looking for those comments). For those who wish to know about my sources then this is for you. All the items used in my work have either been grown myself (like my sweetgrass), wild harvested in small batches, gifted or purchased from ethical (other herbs) and Indigenous (medicines) sources. All animal parts I use have either been reclaimed from roadkill (like porcupine), trimmed from happy animals (like horse hair), or have been used to feed communities (like moose & deer leather or antlers). All of these relatives (both animal and plant) have been harvested in respectful ways. Personally I have a bone collection made up of found bones or from animals who died of natural causes and furs that are either vintage (to give them a more honourable life) or from animals that have been used to feed Indigenous communities. If you don't understand then I invite you to do your own research on food security or go watch Angry Inuk but I'm not here to pander to you or teach you for free.
I have to thank @circotarot for her stories on Indigenous people being the originators of zero waste which in turn inspired me to write this story.

owl medicine is shrouded in mystery.
dark medicine.
the darkness of deep and divine feminine energy.
darkness that is thick and fecund like tangled forests; black and rich like soil; lush like beds of moss; holy like the quiet in the earliest hours of the morning.
a darkness that is the source, the precursor, the womb, to all that might exist in the light.
you will not find owl medicine unless it wants to be found. it is the kind of guidance that cannot be taken or sought. it is the kind of guidance that is offered and then, hopefully, received.
so how do we receive? we soften. we centre our selves in stillness. we acquiesce. we open. we listen. we extend our taproot into the most feminine elements of our nature.
no small task.
because ours is a society that honours and celebrates the mind but neglects and, often times, rejects the sweet balance that the heart provides.
remember, though, if we ask the questions, we must be willing to listen to and receive the answers. if we ask to be a vessel, we must be willing to honour the medicine.
this week, notice the way the pieces you have denied are beginning to bubble to the surface of your conscious mind.
and one rune: laguz. for water. gestation. the collective memory of what was, what is and what will be.
we are gently, fiercely, lovingly tending to and healing the web of what is, but we are also weaving what will come to be; do not waste this gift.
we are creation.
we are waking up.
and so it is.

heart rumblings, ramblings, musings:
1. sometimes i wonder what people think of my home. like do they see all these collections of stuff as junk or clutter? or do they think i’m some kind of weird nature hoarder? i hope they see these treasures as magic though. in this picture alone, just one corner on one shelf, there are sacred reminders from bear, hawk, raven, crow, magpie, macaw, bohemian waxwing, hawthorn, buffalo and earth. there is a thimble sized mound of moss gifted to me by my small blue-eyed fox. there are words, a sankalpa, i will probably work with my entire life. there is art from my children and art from friends. so many treasures.
2. it can be very hard to be a person who sees/senses/knows energy so keenly. especially in a world where people where so many masks. especially in a world where people are so willing to brush off a “knowing” for tangible “facts”. because a lot of you are here with me in this space, i bet you’re the same. i mean, i don’t have anything wildly wise or comforting to offer, except to keep going; keep trusting your knowing, believe the responses you feel in contrast to what you physically see because they are never not wrong.
3. i might have a bit of a problem with plant hoarding. i have started so many from seed and bought so many live and i don’t think i will actually have the garden space for all of them. plus i’m beginning to suspect that i am trying to reforest our yard. there are worse problems to have. ♀️
4. when i need to, and if i want to, i can say no. this is a lesson that comes around and around and around again for me. and then i’ll sputter to myself about shonda rhimes “year of yes” and act all surprised and mopey that saying yes all. the. time. has backfired yet again. so i’m basically talking to myself like a small child, or cornered animal, right now; all “why don’t you just give saying yes to saying no a try for a bit sweetheart?” in my softest, no sudden movements kind of a voice.
that’s me for now.
what’s your heart mulling over?
