Although non-baumannii Acinetobacter (1) has lower resistance rate than A. baumannii (2), the silence of antibiotic resistance gene in Acinetobacter spp. should be concerned.
.
.
The blaOXA-23 had been found in carbapenem-susceptible A. radioresistens but now it’s a major cause of carbapenem resistance in A. baumannii worldwide since the first report from Edinburgh around 30+ year ago!!!

.
Ps I remember that because I was born in that year.

Each and every time bacteria get exposed to an antibiotic, a selection pressure towards mutations conferring bacterial resistance works to create antibiotic resistance overtime. Bacteria with gene mutations helping them survive the antibiotic live on and pass these genes to other bacteria. Darwin works in the bugs' favor. This is why it's important we use antibiotics only when necessary – and when we do use them, that we use the most appropriate antibiotic for the infection at hand.

#10yearchallenge Antibiotic Resistance
▶️Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health, food security, and development today. The rapid emergence of resistant bacteria is occurring worldwide, endangering the efficacy of antibiotics, which have transformed medicine and saved millions of lives.
▶️Antibiotic resistance can affect anyone, of any age, in any country and it occurs naturally, but misuse of antibiotics in humans and animals is accelerating the process.

I’m not a farmer, but I seem to have caught the farming bug. This is a photo from last year when I went to Italy to learn about charcuterie, salami and cheese. I went on a fact finding mission, to see how things were done and the care that went into artisan products. I wanted to understand what was possible before I got my own pigs, to see how we could maximise the flavour in our meat and respect the animal as much as possible. On some parts of the journey I didn’t like what I saw. I didn’t like seeing how some people kept their animals. That’s been one of the hardest things for me, seeing animals that aren’t living the best possible life, or worse, that are quite clearly in distress. It’s easy when there’s talk of antibiotics in meat, poor animal welfare or factory farming to picture it all going on ‘out there, somewhere’. It’s real and being confronted with it is a very tough way to have to realise that. On one occasion I came away from a farm, a small farm out in the countryside, and I was physically sick. I cried as I got into bed and my sleep was disturbed by what I had seen. So forgive me for constantly banging my drum, but if I can persuade just a few of you to start thinking about your food a little differently without you having to witness what I have witnessed, I can rest a little easier at night in the knowledge that we’re on our way to a better system, better food and a better future.
