In the past week, I have welcomed over 1000 new members into my Facebook Group. These are people who have opened their heart to learn, to honour, to hold teachings in reverence.
And many have asked me this question. What is the difference between appreciating a culture that is not your own and appropriating or taking from a culture?
I can only speak for myself. Truly. I have led, taught and sat in ceremony with thousands. Something I know to be true is there is a very fine line that I have felt when someone genuinely wants to learn with an open heart and someone who wants to take and use.
My message has not changed. I am here to teach and open my heart to those who wish to remember their own lineage and connection through my medicines. You are most welcome to join me if you meet me with respect, listening and honouring. I see the Sacred in you waiting to be uncovered.
Appreciation over appropriation is needed more than ever before. It’s a tricky conversation, yet so important that I am willing to open myself to all the stuff that comes from speaking up.
