Maktabatee turned 3 on Monday It was three years ago this week that we officially went live! There were a couple of glitches on the website, our product photography was much less... refined... and we had a grand total of 13 books to start with . . We now have over 75 books in our collection, in addition to puzzles, blocks, CDs, and flashcards. Over the next few months, you can expect to see more additions to the educational materials section, more board books for the youngest fans, and more leveled readers for our early readers! One thing has remained the same: our careful selection of high-quality books and Arabic materials relevant to parents and educators living in non-Arabic speaking countries. . . Maktabatee has a special place in our hearts. It was something we started to benefit our children (and yours) and honor our parents who worked hard to ensure that we would maintain our Arabic language and connection to our family in Jordan. . . We are incredibly grateful for the support you all have given us and for the opportunity to be able to support your efforts to learn, teach and instill the love of Arabic in your children. شكراً❤️

So apparently I’ve never introduced myself! I’m Asma, owner of Civilian Publishing. I come up with the concepts for our books and Nadia (our incredible designer) brings my ideas to life. . I was born and raised in SoCal. I am multi-racial and Muslim. I’m a mom to a fiery, quick witted 4 year old. I’m also married to my favorite artist @treyq.art (p.s he designed @jasmineandmarigold Eid pajama line this year) I came up with the concept for Alif Baa Taa when I was looking for Arabic Alphabet books to introduce my daughter to. The market was lacking modern illustrations, Fus-ha Arabic and transliteration. So I reached out to Nadia (fun fact: her mom was my Arabic teacher growing up!) and I showed her my super simple design and she brought it to a whole new level. We also brought on linguistic experts to make sure every words that we used had proper tashkeel and transliteration. . Communication is another passion of mine. I have a Bachelors in Communications. I believe the way you speak to your child plays a large role in their development. I’ve taken the @parentingfromtheheart class a few times and can’t wait for their book . I love animals! We have two cats at the moment but our house is a revolving door for animals that need a home. . A huge thank you for everyone who has supported us My heart is filled with joy when I see little ones excited about learning.
