Carefully painting the previously extracted sappanwood dye onto silk. By compressing the fabric tightly on a pole and under-dyeing with yellow from gourka tree bark (Garcinia xanthochymus) we can achieve an interesting blend of colors. Traditionally Japanese dyers would use heavy logs for this technique.
