Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It is referred to as degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” arthritis. It typically occurs in the hands, hips, and knees.
Here are 4 ways you can manage osteoarthritis and improve your quality of life:
.
- Get physically active: Experts recommend that adults engage in 150 minutes per week of moderate physical activity, or 30 minutes a day for 5 days. Moderate, low impact activities that are recommended include walking, swimming, or biking.
- Get involved in physical activity programs: Participation in physical activity programs can help reduce pain and disability related to arthritis and improve mood and the ability to move.
- Join a self-management education class: Understand how arthritis affects your life and increases confidence in controlling your symptoms and living well.
- Lose weight: Losing weight reduces pressure on joints, particularly weight-bearing joints like the hips and knees. Reaching or maintaining a healthy weight can relieve pain, improve function, and slow down the progression of osteoarthritis.

By far the most thoughtful (and creative) gift I’ve ever received as an employee. Thanks to the @arthritisfoundation #WalkToCureArthritis staff teams for giving me the opportunity to serve as their co-captain this year. ☠️ CRUSHING goals by raising $180,000 together from a goal of $130,000! (side note: a mock cover and unfortunately, not an actual issue ) #arthritisfoundation #ilovemyjob #workflow #mockcover #covergirl #arthritistoday #cantstopwontstop

I’ve been working really hard on taking care of myself. My diet went out the window in Budapest and my bones could feel it. I came home with swollen and tender joints and a wonky stomach. So, I guess a plant based diet is good for me? I’m getting back on it and my body is feeling better. The crazy thing is that my appetite is way smaller and I’m sleeping much better without the dairy. I don’t think everyone should do this diet, you need to do what is right for your body!! There is no judgment here. Meat and dairy are good but, right now, they are just not good for me. Listening to my own body is a crazy journey and I hope I’m getting better at. Now, I just need to get back to the gym.... also, disclaimer: I still take medication for rheumatoid arthritis. everyone needs their own balance and I’m excited that I’m finding mine.

I have a dumb sinus thing from Budapest... big let down.
I just wrote an email and I went on a tangent about what it means to “be holy.” All the saints, the big ones like Joan of Arc and all of them— they did big stuff but they were eventually martyrd for what they were doing. So I guess none of them really accomplished what they intended but they did try. I think just the act of trying makes us holy. If you really try, your efforts are holy. I don’t think the tasks must be spiritual but I think that making an effort is a huge deal. Whether it is talking to someone intimidating or trying to succeed in business— it’s holy.
Having a compromised body gives me countless opportunities to keep trying. I think all of my efforts are holy- at least to me they are.
