With the support of Athlete Institute Coaches, David Muoka announced his commitment on Monday, June 24th to NCAA DI Lamar University Cardinals in Beaumont, Texas.⠀
⠀
David is a 6’9” PF, hailing from Hong Kong. Looking for greater exposure and to further develop his game, David joined Athlete Institute Red in the 2018-2019 season for his final year of high school.⠀
⠀
David made an immediate impact in the 2018-2019 season, averaging a double-double and leading the OSBA in blocks and rebounds with an impressive stat line of 10.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game. David was also a nominee for OSBA Defensive Player of the Year.⠀
⠀
"David and his family truly trusted the process since he arrived on our campus,” said Manny Dosanjh, Assistant Coach, Athlete Institute Red. “He understood what it took to become a Division I basketball player and although there were some bumps along the way, he kept faith and continued to work."⠀
⠀
“David shared with us what he wanted out of coming to Athlete Institute from Hong Kong. We shared with him & his family our vision of what that journey looked like and they trusted us,” said Jeremy Pope, Head Coach Athlete Institute Red. “In the end, it all came to fruition. His consistency and discipline was present in his entire time with us.”⠀
⠀
David is eagerly awaiting the up-coming basketball season and school year as he will arrive at Lamar University in August for pre-season training.⠀
⠀
"Coming from Hong Kong, it was a dream of mine to play at the Division I level. I'm thankful God put me in this position with my coaches and players at Athlete Institute to go achieve it, said David Muoka. “I feel blessed to be able to move on to Lamar University."⠀
⠀
“David has always wanted to play basketball, ever since the ball was still too heavy for him to lift. He graduated from his school in Hong Kong determined to play at the next level and get closer to his dream,” stated David's parents, Jonathan & Alison Muoka. “He found Athlete Institute online and has not looked back since. We are immensely proud of what David has achieved and very grateful to Athlete Institute for all the support and opportunities they have provided.”
