A little bit information about the German atlantikwall:
In 1941 the Germans started building the Atlantikwall. It stretched from the top of Norway till the border of German-occupied France and Spain. The reason the Atlantikwall was built is because of the need for more soldiers on the Eastern Front. The Atlantikwall was designed to stop a Allied invasion. Herefore thousands of concrete bunkers and anti tank barriers together with millions of mines were placed along the Atlantikwal. In 1942 the Allies started a small operation to break through the Atlantikwal failed. The Germans saw this as a threat and started fortifying the Atlantikwal even more. On the 6th of june 1944 the Allies started operation Overlord and they succeeded breaking through the Atlantikwal and liberating Europe.

Batterie Nansum. This battery was a anti air battery near Delfzijl, a Dutch harbor city. They were build to defend the German harbor city Emden from bombardments of the allied bombers. This bunker was a communication bunker, if they spotted planes they went shooting them down by the battery itself but they also contacted other anti air batteries.

Great view during one of the archaeological coring campaign's I recently conducted. A german 621 Gruppenunterstand at the Moerdijk Bridge as part of an #atlantikwall stronghold. In de back you can also spot a Dutch S3 '#kazemat '. Sadly both are completely trashed and burned on the inside.
