We’re exhausted, but we’re back home at last This past weekend we went to a three day campout with 1000+ people and music going 24 hours a day. I’ve been attending almost annually since I was a toddler, but this was the first time I brought Echo along. There were tons of dogs and kids running around, weird vehicles, crazy costumes, fire dancers, and generally chaotic and bizarre surroundings. 95% of the time, he was his calm, confident self. The other 5% he was a little skeptical, but we worked through it until he was no longer fazed. It was actually pretty awesome to be in unusual situations where I could figure out new things that need more work and have three days to make improvements in that environment! I only had him vested and actively working about a third of the time, and the rest of the time he just got to be the well-behaved dog that he is. I had multiple come up to me to share their amazement that my dog just settled next to me with everything going on around us. One person even assumed he was a senior dog, but he just has a solid off-switch ‍♀️ That being said, he was very excited the few times he was released to run around with his new doggie friends, who, much to their dismay, he ignored completely once his vest went on. He was off-leash nearly the whole time too, but had perfect recall and remained glued to my side unless told otherwise He even fell asleep right by the dance floor with his #muttmuffs on. I’m so incredibly proud of him. I was worried that taking him with me could end up being more stressful than helpful, as it likely would have been while he was still in training, but that was absolutely not the case. Today we took our sweet Eva back to the vet for a recheck. Eva is the senior girl who laid in a ditch, presumably dead, for at least two days before someone discovered she was actually alive and rushed her to the vet. Eva has Glaucoma and is completely blind in her right eye. We have been monitoring the pressure but unfortunately, the eye is causing her a lot of pain and discomfort; so today, along with her care team, we made the difficult decision to schedule her for surgery to remove her eye so her quality of life can be improved. Eva does have a slight heart murmur and her x-rays reveal some enlargement, but no fluid. Everyone agrees the minimal risk is worth the relief she will have once the eye is gone. On a better note, her ears look much much better and we can tell she is feeling much better too. We just want things to keep getting better for her. She deserves all the best care and comfort for the rest of her life. Her surgery is scheduled for April 10th.
