A few shots from Nebbiolo Day which took place in London earlier.
Oddero, Vietti, Brezza, Pio Cesare and Ciabot Berton were just some of the excellent producers showcasing their wines at this super informative event . #nebbioloday #nebbiolo #barolo #barbaresco #altopiemonte #valtellina #roero #langhe #italianwines #winetasting #winemaking #wineblogger #winestudy #winestagram #winetrade
BARBARESCO 2008 (PRODUTTORI DEL BARBARESCO)
LO SCIABOLATORE SOTTOMARINO
88/100
——
A beautiful ruby color, garnet reflections, the nose is delicately spicy as well as the sip, which is fruity and pleasantly persistent on the palate, but no ... we did not open 1978 either, so no vertical and I can't make comparisons: we were pessimistic about the conservation of the bottle, has anyone ever opened this vintage?
My friend and peer @valeriekq was drinking 2001 Gaja Barbaresco yesterday and it got me thinking about how much I adore Gaja
Angelo Gaja is without doubt Italy`s most renowned and dynamic wine personality and his impact on wine production in the last 30 years cannot be overestimated
Angelo Gaja took over the family business in 1970 and, as he says: "The challenge was to maintain the basic power and depth of Nebbiolo while polishing the wines to give them richer colour, fuller fruit, better balance and a more refined style"
In pursuit of this aim Gaja replanted many of the vineyards, installed temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks, introduced the concept of ageing wines in small oak barrels and began releasing single vineyard Barbaresco
Most controversial of all, Gaja planted some Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay on prime Barbaresco land
Today Gaja has 101 hectares of vineyards divided into 32 separate plots and produces around 30,000 cases of wine a year
Gaja produces world-class wines that sell for world-class prices; his latest venture is in Tuscany where he has acquired an estate in Montalcino
Have you been lucky enough to experience the wines of Gaja, if so what have you tried and what has been your favourite Gaja experience? ⬇️

Just a few days before Vinitaly, the world of wine checks up the health of the sector and, at the conference on the wine market promoted by the Alleanza Cooperative Agroalimentari, outlines lights and shadows on the Made in Italy market. "In exports - said the general manager of Ismea Raffaele Borriello - we register increases in value of 3.3%, for a total of 6.2 billion euros, but the quantity of wine exported, about 20 million hectoliters, decreased by around 8%. We have returned in terms of quantities back ten years and we have lost 10% in Germany, 6.4% in Switzerland, 19% in France. Not to mention that in 2018 Spain filled up its bulk wines, and France and the United States retain the two highest places in the global ranking of fine wine production, the top market segment ".
I think that the Silk Road will, if exploited well, be an excellent opportunity for growth throughout the supply chain. What do you think?
