American Animals is about the true story of an art heist by 4 students in Lexington, KY in 2004. It’s delivered documentary style with the portrayal of the events by the actors listed in the film. The way Layton intertwines the actual people into the story is flawless. It’s actually really well done in almost every way possible. Character development, acting, pacing, style, cinematography, etc. are all impressive and effective. . American animals (2018) Es una de las mejores películas del año pasado y pasó casi desapercibida, si del año pasado ya estamos en 2019… . Es una especie de reality / documental de un asalto sumamente real y cercano. Quien no fantaseo alguna vez en arriesgar lo que se tiene,que generalmente es poco, y apostarlo todo a un robo para tener una vida más acomodada. Te enganchas del minuto cero, este relato construido a base de entrevistas con interrupciones del hecho en si, mezclando uno y otro dando un ritmo espectacular. La búsqueda del director Layton que va moviendo las piezas de una simple historia para transformarlo en un producto original es excelente. Es un claro tiempista que ganó experiencia en documentales y lo sabe capitalizar. Suma muchísimo la incertidumbre sobre que fue lo que pasó, los distintos puntos de vista de un mismo hecho, es real o ficción No caigan en la tentación y se auto spoileen este interrogante. . Uno va tomando partido por uno u otro, no podés quedar indiferente ante las acciones de los distintos protagonistas.  Si la ven con amigos o pareja van a ver que rápido sale la frase: “vos serias ese, ves que sos pelotud@” insultando al otro sin razón alguna, quien también te pondrá la cara: el que se mandaría la cagada por bocón SOS VOS!!! Un poco pasa todo por ahí: toda acción tiene consecuencias o no, podes tener un golpe de suerte o estabas condenado al fracaso desde el comienzo. Las pinceladas de calidad la dan dos jóvenes que no sorprenden, ratifican: Primero el irlandés Barry Keoghan, podía ser de otra nacionalidad con esa cara? ya nos había intimidado en la dificil The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) y Evan Peters, de American Horror Story (2011-2018) donde demostró que no solo está para correr con antiparras por las paredes en los X-men. MORNING TRIPLE SHOT! . . AMERICAN ANIMALS - 2018 DIRECTOR - BART LAYTON YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE - 2018 DIRECTOR - LYNNE RAMSAY FIRST REFORMED - 2018 DIRECTOR - PAUL SCHRADER . . Thought I would start off this beautiful Monday morning, spotlighting three underrated cult favorites from last year! None of these, outside of one for screenplay for "First Reformed," were nominated for Oscars and they really should have been, for many categories. Bart Layton, in my eyes, was a top five director last year and should of absolutely been nominated for his work on "American Animals!" One of my top 10 films of last year! What he does with the seamless mixing of the real life vs movie characters is just so impressive and unlike anything I've ever seen before. YWNRH is an easy Best Actor for Joaquin and Cinematography, just for the way the story is told through visuals. And you could definitely argue Ramsey for Best Director. Anyways...What I am trying to say is...If you have not checked out all three of these phenomenal and highly original films with unique styles and visions from their respective directors, then do so right away!
