Time to show some of the Alita’s Berserker body designs I did for the film. Thought would be fun also to start with the hand design. An idea that seemed to resonate well with the team was running the metallic strings through the transparent material so that way the outer boundaries of the softer/flexible parts of the body would be perceived both as soft to touch but also having innate quality of structural toughness to it. Was a completely different set of challenges compare to "Doll" body, but ultimately using similar technical approach: ZBrush for initial design and form sculpting, XSI for retopo and more final surfaces + details, a little bit of Moi3D(way less than on doll body) and rendering in Keyshot. The concept-art/3D design work I did was influenced by both the original manga and art done by the awesome artists over at Lightstorm. And when it comes to VFX, Weta did the necessary changes/updates to make sure the design works well in motion on the big screen.
