Without looking in the comments, how many Cru Villages are there in Beaujolais? No cheating - Most know #Beaujolais for its Nouveau style of wine which is often reminiscent of bananas and bubblegum. A thin light wine rushed through the winery to be released around the world on the 3rd Thursday of November. The commercialisation of Beaujolais began with the Nouveau trend in the 70s and 80s. _ In its peak nearly half of all Beaujolais AC was sold this way. The region was pumping out a ridiculous amount and as a result quality quickly dropped. _ Today #beaujolaisnouveau is a worn out fad wine that only remains a wine of interest in a few cities across France. Many consumers only know Beaujolais for its Nouveau styles and tend not to take this region too seriously. Beaujolais is a great region to look out for, offering excellent value for money, especially when it comes to their top tier cru wines. _ There are a few people responsible for this shift, most notably Jules Chavuet who is often named the godfather of the #naturalwine movement. A winemaker, gifted taster and research chemist who focused on yeast, carbonic maceration and Malo Lactic fermentation. Jules studied nature in order to know what was needed to work with it rather than against it. He spoke out against the use of chemicals in the #vineyard during a time when almost everyone was spraying or using additives in wine. Perhaps a traditionalist at heart who wanted to return to the old practises of #viticulture and vinification. He insisted on using old vines, no chemical sprays, harvesting late to obtain the ripest fruit, sorting tables to use only the healthiest grapes, minimal doses of sulphur dioxide and putting an end to chapitalisaiton. He forever changed the path of the winemaker #marcellapierre who would go on to further inspire others. . . . . #vinnature#vinnaturel#glouglou#gamay#frenchwine#winegirl#somm#sommlife#redwine#wset#wsetdiploma#winestudy

WEEKEND WINES. Slightly belated Weekend Wines post. It's been a hectic day with Darcey's first ballet lessons (proud dad!) and lots more. I've only just had a chance to sit down and chat to you guys! So, where does my mind rush to when things get a little full on? The easier decision ever... Beaujolais. A beautiful region and accessible wines. You can never go wrong with a glass of their wonderfully light red wines, and if you know what's good for you, chill the bottle a little too. Gamay is the grape here and the region became famous for its Beaujolais Nouveau wines which were released in the November after harvest. So simple and fun. Now though the region has worked hard over the past few years to earn a great deal of respect for their light, complex reds. And rightly so. I'll post a bottle shortly, until then... Tell me what you're drinking this weekend. . . . . . . . . . . #wine #wines #winesofinstagram #wineoftheday #wineoftheweekend #wineoftheweek #winefan #winefans #winegeeksaroundtheworld #winegeek #winelove #winelovers #winelover #weekendwines #weekendwine #beaujolais #beaujolaiswine #beaujolaisnouveau #france #frenchwine

Hit the link in our bio or check out our IG story for the secrets to buying better Beaujolais! ⠀ ⠀ Beaujolais is very much the smallest house in the fanciest neighborhood. It’s bordered by Burgundy to the North; the Saône River (which leads to Côtes du Rhône) to the East; the “Gastronomic Capital of France”, Lyon, to the South; and the Monts de Beaujolais (the hills of the Massif Central) on the West.

. . #vinhonosso #beaujolaisnouveau #beaujolais #lebeaujolaisnouveauestarrivé #gamay #josephdrouhin #maisonjosephdrouhin #josephdrouhinbeaujolaisnouveau #redwine #frenchwine #instawine #winetime #winetasting #tastingnotes #winebottle #wineglass #wine #vin #vinho #vino #wein

CARBONIC MACERATION - Sounds like such a serious term but actually represents a technique for making one of the most celebratory types of wine - Beaujolais Nouveau. • A French tradition where a portion of the harvest is used to make wine in 7-9 weeks then released on the third Thursday in November with great fanfare. • Carbonic maceration is quite unique using all whole unpressed clusters placed in a tank with carbon dioxide (no yeast), then sealed tight and never opened during the process (any air will ruin the juice). Amazingly, fermentation occurs within each grape first, causing them to burst and macerate themselves. This process extracts minimal amounts of tannins from the skin, so you’re left with a very light, refreshing and fruit forward wine often described as having a bubble gum nose. • Gamay is the typical varietal used by the French but we enjoyed @guthriefamilywines Carbonic Carignan which had a little more structure and acidity. Either way, Spring is upon us, so go enjoy this easy drinking wine and please share your carbonic fav in the comments. • #the29napa #handpickednapa #napavalley #winecountrylife #winetasting #winemaking #winecountry #winecountryliving #winelover #napa #winelover #napa #vino #winemaker #winewednesday #wineeducation #beaujolaisnouveau #beaujolaisnouveau2018
