Raise your hand if you’ve watched (or are going to watch) @brenebrown’s new show on @netflix?! We watched it last night and I loved all the reminders of what I’ve read in her books.

This quote stood out to me at this moment in my journey as I experience some heart pains of no longer belonging to a community I once felt I belonged. Brene reminds me that TRUE belonging allows me to be who I am without requiring me to change.
_
Have you experienced this before? I am rediscovering that my true belonging is in communion with a God who loves me deeply. And from that place I can move into the world and “dare greatly” and take risks and follow the Spirit.

What stood out most to you?
Empaths can have all sorts of energetic techniques for clearing, but at the end of the day, we gotta deal with our deep fears of belonging and conflict so that we can truly set ourselves free! @silvykhoucasian has some really great posts about boundaries and relationships! #empathproblems #boundaries #energyclearing #survival #belonging #healyourlife #raiseyourvibration
We are, each of us, complex humans. We get to have complex wants and needs. "What I want is to be left alone and what I need is stop repressing my real thoughts for the possibility of your approval." ~ Frida Kahlo ~ ・・・

What does it mean to feel at home? It means to feel a sense of belonging and connection with those around us.
Often it's the lack of acceptance we have for our flaws that keeps us distant from belonging. Feeling like our flaws make us unworthy of connection. Remember that this is just a perception. When we remember that each and every one of us is flawed in some way, we begin to hold ourselves with more compassion and accept ourselves for who we are. The comfort we have with ourselves naturally shows up with others.

I read this quote online, and it really resonated with me. Everything I’ve ever wanted in life was not unreasonable. The relationships I so deeply craved in every corner of my soul were not inaccessible.
⠀
When I was very young, I often tried to open up and was shut down, my words twisted. I wish I could've learned then that fear did not come part-and-parcel with love. But, I’ve always loved cautiously. I still tend to fear. My sweet, young, loving heart – wired for connection – and yet, at every step, I was played, and disconnected… No wonder I felt the way I did. I never stopped wanting more, seeking more, looking for what I never had... but my pursuit only broke me down and taught me to continue to fear.
⠀
On the other side of fear is love, joy, and trust. TRUST. Trust is what is on the other side. Trust not only in myself, but in others. And this is my work... Trust that I am enough, just the way I am. Trust that I can be loved. Trust that disagreement does not mean retaliation. Trust that I am good. Trust that I am light. Trust that I am still that perfect, sweet, little girl with nothing but love in her heart. I was never asking for too much. My need to be loved the way that I deserved was not unreasonable. I was just asking the wrong person.
⠀
And that's okay. You don't know what you don't know. I know better now.
“When your presence is hospitable, the other can become their essential self in your company, even if just for a holy moment. One of the greatest contributions we can make to our communities is to hold this welcoming presence for others, without any presumption that they give something in return or conform to our expectations, without giving into the temptation to change, fix, or solve their questions for them. This presence silently communicates that it believes in the part of them that knows which way to go. And they can feel that. With their inner knowing reflected, they begin to move in the right direction.”

A friend snapped this photo of Jay praying over our meal for the Easter lunch we hosted this Sunday for our friends and neighbors. One thing we realized when we moved out to California from Texas almost 5 years ago () was that there are a few holidays that feel a little lonely when you don’t have family in town... Easter being one of them. It’s always such a celebratory day at church, and then most people leave to go enjoy lunch with their families, leaving us like “womp womp”. I remember telling Jay 2 years ago that I’d love to host a yearly Easter lunch for all of the transplants like us and make it a Howard tradition. Last year, we were in the process of moving, so it didn’t happen. But this year, we invited everyone from our church that doesn’t have family in town, and it turned out to be a pretty big group of people! It was so sweet to look around our home and see people from Washington, New Jersey, Alabama, and Kentucky all gathered together, forming our church family. Like, it brings tears to my eyes thinking how grateful I am to be surrounded with so many incredible people from our church that we now count as dear friends. If you follow my Instagram stories, then you know I’m working on combatting my grumbly heart with constant recognition of everything I’m grateful for, and wow, having a home that we can host our friends and neighbors in to help give a sense of belonging and community is definitely one of them!
