Migraine headaches are a health issue affecting women three times more than men. Of the 26 million Americans suffering from migraines, 20 million of them are women and of these 20 million women, 60% of them associate their migraines with their menstrual cycles. This is no coincidence ladies!

For those of you who suffer from menstrual migraines, I don’t need to tell you how debilitating these can be – I often hear tales from many of you about how much they impact the quality of your life.

What causes menstrual migraines? There are two leading theories on the causes:
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
✔️Hormone Withdrawal: the normal drop of estrogen as part of your menstrual cycle. The decline in estrogen in the run up to your period is completely normal, yet for some women, it is a trigger for migraines or headaches, especially if there is an imbalance between levels of estrogen and progesterone
⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
✔️Prostaglandin Release: hormone-like substances that get released into your body prior to your period, which stimulate inflammation and subsequent pain.

When we’re in the scarcity mindset it’s primarily because we’ve lost our connection to Source. We feel orphaned and abandoned by life - cut off from the flow that is the true source of our abundance.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, which means there’s no better time to talk about it than now. Make mental health a priority !

1 in 5 adults in the U.S. alone experience mental illness each year, yet only 41% of those with a mental disorder receive professional help/other services.
HALF of ALL mental disorders begin by age 14, and three-quarters by age 24.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Being diagnosed with major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder continues to be an incredibly difficult and all-consuming part of my life. On rare days, I feel like I can reach out to others, and on rarer days, I have a little hope that perhaps I do have a future away from my own demons. Going on hikes and just getting away will always be my happy place, but I will continue to search for those air pockets in life so I can breathe along the way. It’s not that all people who suffer with mental illness don’t know that things can get better .... but rather don’t know HOW to make things better.

We can start by ending the stigma. Acknowledge the prevalence of mental illness and be understanding. Check up on the people you love .... it doesn’t have to mean directly asking if they’re okay. How do you show others that YOU CARE ? Apply that to those around you !!! Make plans with them, give them words of encouragement, and just. show. that. you. care. Because you SHOULD.
