When mama wants a water photo, we make the water photo happen. This was taken after one near death experience & also while literally sitting on my butt in the sand directly in the line of fire of these waves. And with my poor naked camera just along for the ride. I can only imagine what people on the beach think when they see me getting these shots but it’s a challenge I just can’t pass up. I love the way the movement of the ocean changes day to day and it almost feels like a science to get the shot I’m going for in my head. Also, let’s talk about how much fun I had laughing and talking with these two last night. Seriously two of the sweetest, most down to earth people who are SO dang in love. You know, it’s true that there’s grief in saying goodbye to the last of each stage you get to parent. Leo is our last baby, and watching him grow and leave babyhood behind of course brings a measure of sadness. But I think we’re so used to hearing and repeating these sad sentiments about our children growing up quickly and life passing in the blink of an eye that we possibly forget what a crazy, incredible gift it is to watch our kids grow up. I don’t mean it isn’t okay to miss a stage - of course it is! But I don’t think there’s much value in romanticizing the past when it distracts from the gift of the present. Having a healthy child to raise, and experiencing each new day, each new year together - watching an infant turn into a complex, multifaceted human who you get to know more deeply with every passing day - this is the greatest gift of all. Mothering doesn’t end when the baby stage ends, but in fact is just beginning.

Hellloooo lovelies. I’m sorry it’s been quiet over this way. It turns out road tripping with seven kids is amazing, but all consuming and maybe a little exhausting (a lot exhausting.) We are making our way home to love on our fur babies and jump into our own bed and should be arriving this weekend sometime. I’ll be answering all my e-mails and editing my heart out, so it’s gonna be super busy! I’ll also have to sadly turn off the sale for the authentic artist workshop guide, so if you haven’t grabbed that, I wouldn’t wait. It’s still hugely discounted!
