On the second day riding from Shangri-La to Litang we (together with @hallo_luke) entered a gorge. On these road we are reminded how small we are. Camping in these environments is a challenge for there’s usually only a road, a river and rocks. The first night we found an empty building alongside the road in which we could just fit our tent. The next night we found a place somewhere on the side of the road.

Repost @a_remarkable_ride by @media.repost: Crossing the alps means a few high passages. Some days ago, we began by climbing the Fernpaß. We had two roads to choose from; one paved with mild ascent and lots of cars, and one gravel road, through the forest with steep hills, originally used by the ancient Romans. Still escaping the traffic, we took the second one, and shortly after we found ourselves pushing our loaded bikes through snow, all the way up to the top at 1400 m, were we slept surrounded by the peaks. One of the reasons we decided to cycle from Alaska to Argentina is the incredible variety of terrain and ecosystems. Just before we crossed into the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on the planet, we spent what seemed to be most of the day trying to get across rivers. You never knew when a river would take over the road, and it was always a fun challenge to figure out the best way over, around or through. Thank goodness for our waterproof socks when our strategies failed to keep our feet dry. Check out the story I just posted for all my "favorite" ways to cross a river.
