What makes @bkk_architects a great place to work?
.
.
#Physicalstudioenvironment – The studio is in a heritage-listed, run-down Brutalist building in the heart of Chinatown. It is filled with local and international artists, as the practice has particularly close ties with the Melbourne art scene, and typically tries to share their space to encourage learning; from filmmakers to interior designers.
.
#Peoplediversity- Since their founding in 2000, BKK has fostered a growing network of thinkers – artists, engineers, curators and designers – through collaboration and dialogue. BKK celebrates their cultural diversity by Friday night presentations called WIAMF (where am I from). This allows the staff to share an insight into their own heritage and traditions including local cuisines!
.
.
#Learningandevelopment- The studio is very focused on model making and the possibilities of using model making technology and 3D printing on all aspects of the design process. One example is full scale prototyping of seating for the #monashunimasterplan.
.
#Companyculture- BKK directors are known to clients and collaborators as down-to-earth and interested in promoting a practice on equality that drives collaboration and intellectual challenge.
The aim is to expand possibilities, often with unexpected and enriched outcomes.
.
.
#Benefits- the practice’s directors actively encourage staff to take time out from studio work – each week, everyone from the students to the associates is given two hours out of work to use as they please; to visit a gallery, watch a film, whatever. BKK strongly encourages work/life balance as the key to a vibrant practice.
.
#Charitiesandcommunities- BKK has taken part in multiple local and international exhibitions including the Venice Biennale and Melbourne Now at the NGV. This year they have a new show called 100 models at Craft Victoria, which celebrates the network of ideas within an architecture studio. Director Simon Knott established his own weekly Architecture radio show with Stuart Harrison in 2004.The aim of the show was to broaden the understanding of architecture in the wider community in a sophisticated manner.
