And as promised... the second new this week #womenwelove added to the collection. Also available now on the website and in #atlanta @stevemckenzies This ties in nicely with @thesouthernc Monday motivation "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know BETTER, do better." #mayaangelou
@djs_eugoria posing with a copy of the March 1925 edition of #SurveyGraphic donated by @blackclassicpress. The magazine, which launched in 1921 shed light sociological and political topics. However, the March 1925 edition entitled "Harlem: Mecca of the New Negro" edited by #AlainLocke was devoted solely to the "African-American literary and artistic movement now known as the #HarlemRenaissance and established Harlem's status as the #BlackMecca." ____________________________________________

The second picture is just priceless. Overall, there is a message behind it. Just because I change my look or hair doesn't mean everything is perfect. This is what anxiety looks like. I don't wish it upon anyone including my worst enemies. I always remind myself I will make it, but what hurts and kills me is how the black community wants to put mental health under the rug. It kills me when I hear one of our babies take their own lives dues to being bullied, which is one of the factors caused by mental health. As an advocate for the black community, I challenge you to uplift one another, be a listening ear, and help one another. All of this putting crap underneath the rug needs to cease. Mental health is real. Losing a loved one is real. #BlackQueen #BlackAuthor #BlackAdvocate #BlackFeminist #BlackActivist
Continuing our month-long theme of #AfricanAmericanMusicAppreciationMonth in the machine is #HeyCharleston, the True Story of the Jenkins Orphanage Band.
#StoryTime: Established by Rev. Daniel Joseph Jenkins in 1891 who frequently encountered homeless children and decided to create an orphanage for young Black children. The orphanage which ran mostly off of monetary donations also received a variety of donated musical instruments. With the help of P.M. "Hatsie" Logan and Francis Eugene Mikell, two Charleston musicians, begin to tutor the boys in music. The tutorials were a success and the Jenkins Orphanage Band became the ONLY BLACK instrumental group organized in South Carolina. Wearing discarded uniforms from The Citadel, the band performed throughout not only the Charleston area, but also the United States and even toured England raising money for the support of the orphanage. In fact, the band was so successful, they were asked to play in the inaugural parades of two Presidents.
Today, The Institute acts as an advocacy group for children and families.

First giving honor to God who is the Head of my life, family and loved ones, I earned my 11th coin. This is indeed a blessing. I never thought I would get this. It is a blessing to only have been in the military for five years and truth be told, I never thought I will earn my 11th coin. God is not through with me yet, for I can't wait to see what else He has in store for me. #ArmyChick #BlackQueen #BlackAdvocate #BlackFeminist #BlackActivist #Armylife
