I am all cozy on the couch after our fresh embryo transfer. This is our little one. We feel so grateful... We’ve never made it this far and it’s all so surreal. The doctor was flustered reporting how well our fertilized eggs did. His reaction could be heard from outside the consult room before he walked in... His exact words: “Oooo doggie!” Six of the eight made it to blastocyst, all AA quality. With a lot of love and science... we made it! Plenty of rest to come. We remain faithful and thank each and every one of you for your kindness, prayers, messages, good juju, and anything else you put into the universe for us. Let the two week wait begin!

2 Years Ago Today I had 2 perfect 5day Blastocysts Transferred, I was so nervous, so excited, so full of hope with equally as much fear & anxiety that it might not be our time, Little did we know our little miracles were both here to stay, I can’t even put into words how I felt when I did my first pregnancy test way earlier than I should of and saw those 2 lines, 2 years on and my babies are 17 months old today and are the happiest, cheekiest most loving little boys I once only dreamed of having, if your still on your TTC journey don’t ever give up. My favorite picture of us ever... taken yesterday by our dr. that we’ve been with since 2014, Dr. Lannon. It’s been such a long road to get this point. 7 years. And, although it’s far from over, I can’t believe the huge milestone we just completed. Many are asking, what now? Of course, the transfer we completed yesterday is not guaranteed to work. Our embryo has to implant on its on. If it doesn’t, the pregnancy will unfortunately fail. And if it does implant and the pregnancy is successful, we still face chances of miscarrying. So many things can still go wrong. But, so many can go right. Right now, we are holding onto the beautiful facts.. that we transferred a top grade embryo that has no chromosome abnormalities into a uterus with a thick lining and an overall hormonally balanced body! we got lucky! Our genetic test results came back early! And the outcome was far beyond our wildest wishes! Out of 7 embryos sent to be tested, we have 5 HEALTHY and genetically normal embryos!!! 3 BOYS & 2 GIRLS When we started this process we had no idea how many to expect. But after endless hours of research, reading others stories and talking to other IVF couples.. we realized just how hard it is to get a healthy embryo. They don’t come easy. Our numbers throughout every step of the way have been better than what we could have ever imagined. And to end with 5 is mind blowing. The peace of mind knowing that we have 5 chances, not just one, is the best gift I’ve ever been given in my life. And knowing we have the possibility of having more than one child if we are lucky enough to have successful pregnancies is more than my mind can fathom! Knowing the genders of all your (potentially) future children is by far the weirdest feeling we’ve ever had! But, by far the best! I know everyone is wondering how on earth we could know that we have 3 boys and 2 girls waiting to be transferred. A very short explanation of PGS testing... the mom and dad each give 23 chromosomes to each embryo made (whether it’s naturally or through IVF!) If doing IVF, when each embryo makes it to day 5, a biopsy is taken from it and sent to be tested. If the embryo has 46 chromosomes, it’s normal. If it has more or less, it’s abnormal (most likely would miscarry or have long term issues if it was successful.) They can also see if it has the XX or XY chromosome, determining boy or girl! It’s absolutely amazing. Your love and prayers, so much luck, determination and incredible science has gotten us here! Now onto transfer!Hoping we can carry this luck with us! We got another report today! 25 little embryos is what we have currently at day 4 ⁣ If you are new to IVF - the number of eggs you get at the beginning doesn’t mean you will end up with the same number in the end. You will most likely lose some during each stage of this long process. We have been so so blessed to have started with such a high number. ⁣ ::⁣ Once my eggs were fertilized the @cnyfertility @cnyfertilitylab embryologists watch them ❤️ and check status at day 3/5/6 to see how many are growing nicely. We will be freezing and transferring next month so that means tomorrow 8 of our little embryos will be biopsied and sent off for genetic testing. Shots at the pub have changed a bit When you’re out for your best friends bday but have to do shots at 8:30 I’m not going to lie.. starting the pre-transfer shots was a bit intimidating.. the needle is way heftier than the retrieval shots and that baby burns. But knowing we have control over my progesterone levels gives us great peace of mind. Blastocyst Biopsy . The above embryo was biopsied today to test for the BRCA1 gene. Not all pgs testing is done for sex selection or for aneuploidy screening. For some patients we have to genetically screen the embryo for specific diagnoses. This is called PGD or Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis . The procedure is the same in our lab. We pull the trophectoderm cells out from the zona, use the lazer to break the joins between the cells and biopsy a few cells off. These will then be sent to the genetics lab for testing . We try to zap the embryo with the lazer as little as possible so we do not harm the embryo too much. The idea is to try and get the cells to come apart with minimal damage. Over use of the lazer can burn too many cells on the outside and reduces the survival of the embryo . The trophectoderm always reminds me of crocodile or snakes scales in the pattern they make. It amazes me that we can take a few of these cells and the embryo repairs so quickly. It truly is a marvel the human embryo . Enjoy your friday .
