The crimes of Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow came to a violent end on May 23, 1934. After studying the criminal couple’s movements for months, Four Texas lawmen and two Louisiana lawmen staged a highway ambush in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. When Bonnie and Clyde came down the rural road, officers unloaded approximately 130 rounds of shotgun, rifle, and pistol fire into Clyde’s Ford V8. After the smoke settled, the coroner tallied 17 entrance wounds for Clyde and 26 for Bonnie, including several headshots for each and one shot that snapped Clyde’s spinal column. Lead investigator and member of the ambush posse, Frank Hamer, had to say about the attack: “I hate to bust the cap on a woman, especially when she was sitting down, however if it wouldn’t have been her, it would have been us.” Bonnie was 23, Clyde was 25.

On #ThisDayinHistory 1934, notorious criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are killed by Texas and Louisiana state police while driving a stolen car near Sailes, Louisiana. Bonnie Parker met Clyde Barrow in Texas when she was 19 years old, and shortly after they met, Barrow was imprisoned for robbery. When Barrow was paroled in 1932, he immediately hooked up with Parker, and the couple began a life of crime together. After they stole a car and committed several robberies, Parker was caught by police and sent to jail for two months. The couple teamed with various accomplices to rob a string of banks and stores across Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, New Mexico and Louisiana. To law enforcement agents, the Barrow Gang, which included Barrow’s childhood friend, Raymond Hamilton, W.D. Jones, Henry Methvin, Barrow’s brother Buck and his wife Blanche, were cold-blooded criminals. Among the public, however, Parker and Barrow’s reputation as dangerous outlaws was mixed with a romantic view of the couple as “Robin Hood”-like folk heroes. Their fame was increased by the fact that Bonnie was a woman and the fact that the couple posed for playful photographs together, which were later found by police and released to the media. Texan prison officials hired a retired Texas police officer to track down Parker and Barrow and he tracked them down after a three-month search. On May 23, lawmen hiding in the bushes opened fire, showering the couple in a hail of bullets and killing them. All told, the Barrow Gang was believed responsible for the deaths of 13 people, including nine police officers. Don't blink, or you'll miss it! Took the reproduction "Barrow Gang" sawed off Browning A5 out last night. This gun is an original 1920s example modified to precisely replicate the Browning evident in photos of Bonnie Parker, Clyde Barrow, and W.D. Jones taken just prior to the Joplin shootout in April of 1933, and was very likely the shotgun employed in the killings there. Handy and devastating in close quarters, it has an overall length of just 30", with a 15.5" barrel. A leather sling secured to the cut down buttstock allows it to be suspended from the shoulder hands-free and concealed fairly well under a suit jacket or coat.
