The Old State House Museum, Boston, Massachusetts.
The Old State House is a historic building in Boston, Massachusetts, at the intersection of Washington and State Streets. Built in 1713, it was the seat of the Massachusetts General Court until 1798, and is one of the oldest public buildings in the United States. The Old State House Museum is the original state capitol of Arkansas. Since 1833, when construction began, the building and its grounds have witnessed many of the most important events in Arkansas history. The Old State House has hosted the admission of Arkansas to the Union, a fatal knife fight between two sitting legislators, the Arkansas vote to secede from the United States and join the Confederacy, pioneering medical research into hookworm and malaria, and two acceptance speeches by the president of the United States. Oldest and most important public building in American history prior to the Revolution,
where John Adams insisted, “Independence was born.” Step back in time at this must-see destination on the Freedom Trail! #LeicaCameraUSA
The purple windows of downtown Boston, known as “Lavenders”, are one of my favorite accidents. In the early 1800s when these homes were built, the windows that were shipped in from the manufacturer in England were clear. Over time, sun exposure turned them purple due to excess manganese oxide in the glass. A mistake at the time, and a beautiful part of history now, there are still a handful of homes in Boston and the surrounding areas with these distinctive windows. I’ve read that some of the panes on this particular home were added in a later remodel to emphasize the preexisting purples, but they are majestic all the same.
