This was my favorite find from my recent dig. It’s an early 1950’s Old Spice after shave bottle. The first production of Old Spice after shave in 1938 originally featured a ceramic bottle created by the A.E Hull Pottery Co. in Crooksville, Ohio. However, this bottle became problematic when demand for the product rose from thousands of orders a year to millions by the 1940’s. Leaks in the porous material became more prevalent with the rise in demand. The company was forced to change the design of their bottle or face bankruptcy. After several months of research and experimentation a “Pottery Glass” bottle was introduced in 1946 featuring a blend of ceramic and glass materials with an appearance similar to opal glass. Another bottle. Spent ages picking up a huge bag full of plastic bottles, general rubbish and a load of 70’s glass pop bottles! Happy with this one find. Shame about the broken lip. But he’s a keeper. Look at the bubbles in the glass!!! Very roughly made! Next #sunsurfseaglass bottle is this 1930s Saravel perfume! This was one of the bottles I researched for a previous #bottlebackgroundwednesday post. Mine is broken, but I plan on finding a whole bottle one day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The original bottle would have had a brass metal cover engraved with “Morocco” over a twist-off cap (you can swipe over to see photos of the intact bottle)
