Performance beyond limitation!

I had the pleasure to do some work for @break_point_uk this weekend at their first Basecamp event, which went off with great success. The two days are designed to push people outside of their comfort zones and work beyond their normal limits, inside a controlled and memorable experience.
•
What was particularly interesting was hearing the story of how Breakpoint was started by @ollie.ollerton. After leaving the Special Forces, and working overseas, Ollie came up with a concept based around the lessons learned through selection and operations. A way to help people break free from limiting beliefs, and maximise their potential.

After returning to the UK in 2014, and whilst running some training for government personnel Ollie stepped foot on the land which he knew was perfect for bringing his idea to life. Fast forward to now and he’s made that vision into a reality. But getting to that point was a battle through naysayers, critics and personal adversity. Something we all face in some form or another through our lives.

I usually like to link my posts back to underlying psychology and habits which can be applied to people's own situations. But in this case I think the excerpt from Theodore Roosevelt’s “Citizenship in a Republic” speech is more apt:

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."
So awesome to see the footage from our recent BREAK-POINT event, MISSION EVADE ♂️
Yes we use a military format but the courses have one MISSION OBJECTIVE To break the self limitations of our fear focused minds! And it works!

The man cave is not complete but finally functional. This move together with the book launch has been traumatic to say the least, and I’ve noticed some long forgotten patterns of life creaping in I’m not happy with.

At this point I was thinking of all the veterans I supported and in particular my mate Marcus Goldie who took his own life after many years of struggling in June 2016. I watched him box in Royal Marines training and what an epic fight that was, I was inspired by Goldie, heart of a Lion, legend of a man! After watching @ajodudu carrying 45kg up that hill (while her oppo carried 25kg) it was clear that ‘taking too much for the team’ almost cost AJ her place on the course. .
There’s a valuable lesson here. It’s so important to know your weaknesses but it’s also vital to have an understanding of other people’s too, especially when working as part of a team. .
How many times have you been compromised due to compensating for the shortcomings of others? When we have to do this on a daily basis it can create a great deal of stress, physically and mentally.
.
We all have strengths and weaknesses and it’s important to understand and accept what these are so that we can set clear boundaries for ourselves and ensure that we are not being put upon by others. .
