Port Charlotte Scottish Barley Heavily Peated Tipo : Single Malt Whisky Origen : Islay / Escocia Contenido : 700ml / 50%vol La turba es una mezcla de vegetación, restos de animales y musgo, que con el paso de los años se ha ido compactando en capas. Es como una especie de barro muy compacto. Para maltear la cebada que dará lugar al whisky, esta debe ponerse en remojo y secarse después. Gracias a este proceso, luego será más fácil extraer los azúcares para el proceso de maceración. En el caso de los whiskies ahumados, la cebada se seca con el calor y el humo de un fuego de turba. Cuando se acaba el proceso de secado, se mide el nivel de ahumado de la malta, medido en partes de fenol por millón (o PPM). ~ Port Charlotte es una línea de whiskies de malta de la destilería Bruichladdich que también produce The Classic Laddie y Octomore, por mencionar algunos. En el caso de esta expresión, para ser un Islay y a pesar de que en la botella dice heavily peated (posee 40 PPM) el ahumado es mas amable y sutil que en un Adberg o Caol Ila. Este whisky se produce con cebada local, es añejado en barricas de roble americano y europeo y no posee filtrado en frío ni colorante añadido. En nariz es complejo y dulce: humo, vainilla, citricos, un toque sutil de yodo que mejora si dejar reposar la botella una vez abierta. En boca se sienten notas dulces, florales y cítricas, nuevamente la presencia de humo, madera, una leve nota medicinal y un toque salado pero no tanto como un Lagavulin o un Talisker. Es una excelente opción para iniciarse en los whiskies ahumados ya que es amable, dulce y con un ahumado sutil. That being said, this Feis Ile tasting is probably one of the best we’ve had and one I’d share the hell out in the months to come. . Everyone has raved about the 29.260 A Visceral, Elemental Experience and rightly so. There’s also another star of the show, a 27 year old 23.75 Whisky of a Bygone Era, and what an apt name that is for a rare whisky that is so full of character! ❤️ . We also got to try a bit of the 29.259 and 29.261, and have completed a mini vertical of the 29 Feis Ile outturn, they weren’t as complex and delicious as the 260, but I think the three compliments each other quite well. .
