The idea of a controlled piece of wilderness in amongst the concrete doesn’t make sense on paper - but my goodness it utterly works, almost hidden in plain sight...instead of crossing the main road from Barbican Station, instead nip up the stairs and over and badabingbadaboom there it is. The planting for the City of London’s newest garden was designed by Nigel Dunnett. According to Nigel’s website the planting is designed to give continuous waves of colour washing over the beds. Being a bit of a concrete nerd, it’s immensely pleasing to see the plants swaying in the wind set against the backdrop of brutalist architecture.
