We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them. One of the most distinguishing elements of Burning Man is the fact that we leave the earth just the way we found it when we leave. Have you ever been to a British festival? Or really any type of 3 day festival? Notice how everyone just abandons what they were consuming or holding (as if they were doing a mic drop) on the ground next to wherever they happen to be standing & by the evening the entire venue is a sea of rubbish and waste? Burning Man is not only not a music festival but also nothing like what i just described. It’s a place where even a strand of hair or a fleck of glitter is removed from the ground. We call anything that happens to accidentally find it’s way to the ground Matter Out of Place or MOOP for short. Before leaving we rake the ground and pick up every last splinter of wood and piece of MOOP. In fact a large crew of people stays for almost a month afterwards MOOPing & making sure there is literally no trace we were there.
